I'm in the process of selling, or trying to sell my Blade and not having much luck. I understand that I have priced higher than some others but only because I believe the bike is worth the amounts. I think the reason it isn't attracting the attention they deserve is because nobody is interested in forking out premium prices towards end of 'Riding season'. I am contemplating storing the Blade and reducing usage of 600 until spring and advertising them both then. I don't want to advertise the 600 until the Blade has sold, if the 600 sells first I wouldn't ride the Blade throughout winter. When would be the best time/month to advertise them and reach the right market (rich seasonal riders lol) Thoughts please?
It's not the end of season yet! I'd suggest to make some effort and properly advertise the bike on here, eBay and Autotrader with good quality pictures, detail description and explanation why your price is higher than average. Buyers tend to favour standard, unmessed with bikes that have been serviced by a reputable garage so perhaps do something about that. Maybe take the bike to a few dealers to see what they would offer you. Last but not least: the selling price has nothing to do with what you paid for the bike or how much you spent on it.
If the bike is priced right it will sell straight away! I've always sold bike at the start of spring and bought during the winter months if that helps. But totally agree with what speedox has said
For a private sale I don't think anyone will be interested in "forking out premium prices". "rich seasonal riders" will just go to a dealer! You need to price it in line with similar bikes if you are serious about selling. Have you advertised it on here? Why not put the Advert up so that people can comment on price etc? Good luck with the Sale. Cheers, Ian.
How old's the Blade? The trouble with selling 1 to 3 year old Bikes is the competition from Honda's Zero % finance offers! When I bought my bike in March this year I was initially looking at spending around 6-7K on a 10 plate Blade/ZX10R etc Then I found Dealers doing new MY12 Blades on 13 Plate Reg's for £10.5K with a £3.8K deposit and the rest over 3 years at ZERO %! This equates to £185/Month, Fek all in my book, so that's the way I 'rolled', Brucie Bonus is it's a New'un and comes with a 2 Year Warranty to boot. 10/11/12 Blades therefore have a lot of competition in Buyers eyes when they can get these sorts of deals new! You price your Bike Top End and you'll get no takers, which is what you've found out. Spring is the best time to sell when the Sun's just coming out! Jan Feb is the best time to buy when existing owners have had the Christmas Credit Card Bill land on the mat!
She is a 2002/02. I don't think I have overpriced it. I think that alot of others are undercutting themselves.
Advert looks good, and very low mileage for an 11 year old bike. But at the end of the day if you aren't getting any calls it is priced too high.
I can see me storing it and holding fire until spring. It's worth more than I have advertised it for and I know it is. Just got to wait until the market is right.
3000 is alot For an old bike it's in mint condition but really is a little hi 2000 2500 would fly out.
I would £2995 it and stick it on ebay, be amazed if it didn't go, but I watch a fair few bikes and prob 75% don't sell It's one thing seeing what people are asking and another getting it Nice bike and you may get over £3k using eBay, worth trying at £3195 and reduce after a week ?
I find things sell alot better on eBay as an auction I normally put an over priced buy now but also an auction starting at 99p (all same listing not 2 seperate) people forget the actual value of the item in the excitement of bidding and are fooled into thinking they have just got the bargain of their lives Example If you want 3k for it set the auction with 99p start 2950 reserve with a 3750 buy now The bidders keep looking at the 3750 and just are keen to undercut that amount and you get the cash you want and they walk away happy thinking they have robbed you. Never fails
I appreciate what you are saying Martin and eBay is a tempting notion, but I have sold on eBay before and lost out due to eBay and PayPal taking their cuts. That was on a £500 camera, I wouldn't like to think how much they would take on a £3000+ bike.
That's the bonus with selling vehicles on there Normal items fees = 10% Vehicles = 1% So £500 camera would of been £50 charge £3000 bike only £30, same price if not cheaper than a bike trader ad and its basically guarenteed to sell because set as auction and within a week. win win if you ask me
Defo win win!! How did I not know this sooner. Dammit. What about PayPal?? Surely if someone attempts to pay me £3k+ then PayPal will want a formidable chunk??
I ask for cash on collection in big red letters at bottom of description or if paid by PayPal it must be sent as a "gift" payment that way they pay the fees
I use ebay quite a lot, both as a buyer and seller. I have also sold vehicles on there occasionally. I never accept Paypal for vehicles as I believe it is too risky as the transaction can be disputed and the money returned to the buyer, but you may not get your vehicle back. Cash on collection only is the way I do it.
I cannot offer advise on the Blade price, but i will say when i was looking there were a lot of 10 year old blades out there! You HAVE to have something either on it, or about it that makes it stand out, for example, only 2nd owner, spotless service history etc or "all of the above". On the 600RR i sold, i had it on ebay for a month on an auction and classified! Nothing no interest at all, apart from stupid stupid offers. My 600RR was mint 55 plate and Candy blue and i was only second owner, FSH, basically every box ticked! Could not sell it, getting offers up to £1000 less! I put it on Gumtree......................Sold! Ok the bloke also tried knocking me down, and offered silly money, they knew it was worth the asking price and i got them right back up to what i wanted, job done! I think you should try GT, its free! You can end the ad and put another on to keep it at the top of the listings foc! And of the recent bikes i have had, sold all on Gumtree...!!!!! Take some time and get some really great pictures, correct lighting, and good close ups of how good the condition is, i like the pic of the history, i like seeing that from a buyers PoV.. Try getting some pictures in a nice park setting, green is very welcoming, get some close ups of the fairings down the sides if they are largely free of any stone chipping, same as the top yoke area, state that it is mark free here n there! These little things people do think about when buying although they will never admit. Get some wd40 wiped over the black bits in the top nose fairing, i.e. headlights, wires, cables, clocks, and the frame that holds all that. The bike as a whole looks really really nice mate, and the wording does read well, add the owners unless its high, some are put off some not so much. So you have a pillion seat? If not, consider trying to pick one up cheap. I added a seat cowl to make mine even more appealing, but i did get it for a bargain. Stuff like that. Good luck and i hope it goes well for you!
