I haven't actually done my 08, but I don't think you need to remove the fairing.

No just looking at my 12 id say remove sprocket cover air gun and your good to go . When torqueing the nut back up ( if chain on) i put a padded stick through back wheel while on stand let it rotate till sits on swing arm jobs a good un ;)

You will probably need to remove rear wheel and spindle to get enough slack in the chain to lift it off the sprocket to allow removal. Don't forget to remove sprocket nut FIRST.

Get someone to press the rear brake when undoing the front sprocket nut

The easiest way to get the bolt off was to use an impact wrench the small 12volt job coming off your battery. Needs to be in gear first when undone select neutral to get the slack back to remove the sprocket. Getting the sprocket back on can be daunting for the first timer slacken the spindle nut to get sufficient slack
