Looking for a quiet lid.. Any thoughts? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331599987678?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT http://www.fc-moto.de/epages/fcm.sf...oducts/Schuberth-S2-Line-White-Red-Green-0003
Scuberth are really quiet and good quality but like most German stuff they are more efficient than pretty. I am sure they have the seat belt type fastener which you couldn't at one time use on track, no worries if you will never use it for this. I am tempted by this, great price, http://www.wheelup.it/gb_en/x-802r-ultra-carbon-helmet.html
Which one fits the best? Because of my background I often get asked which is the best helmet to buy, butthe bottom line is that firstly it is very subjective because what is right for one person may not suit another, and you do not need to spend a fortune to get good protection. I have been fortunate enough to visit many of the major factories, and without exception, all the big brands build their helmets to exceed EC22/05. But a poor fitting helmet is the biggest issue and most of the case studies I have done and most of the accidents I have investigated where it involved a head injury have been because the helmet was poor fitting. So forget brand names and/or price, go for the best fitting.
Agreed on fit being the most important. I had an Arai Rebel and found it a bit noisy, partly because of no chin curtain. Arai keep promising to bring one out to retrofit but only in Japan so far...
I have a Shoie XR1100 - nice lid, fits well but too noisy.. I think the NXR carbon, this also fitted and very light.. was my friends.. Had a Arai RX7 - way too noisy.. Going to J&S shortly to try the Schuberth on..to see what its like
Just bought a Quantum ST. Much quieter than my RX7. I bought it from Gearchange @ Scunny - great discounts :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Arai-Quan...m-289-99-Final-Close-out-prices-/221902721689
Been trying lids on myself this weekend and today. I have an XR1000 in a medium at the moment so well due a change. Tried the NXR which looks a real quality helmet but it didn't feel quite right. Tried the X-lite Carbon as above but the medium was too small and sat too high on my head but large was better. Again beautiful lid but fitted too close to my chin. Lining was the best I've felt though, very comfortable and well made. Then a Shark, race pro I think, tight to get on at first as the bottom of the lining hugs closer to the next. Once one it felt OK but not quite the right shape. Aria Axces 2 and Chaser V both felt very plasticky and the visor mech didn't inspire any feeling of quality at all so put them straight down again. Then the HJC RPHA 10 Pro in a medium. Heaven! Felt comfortable straight away (OK a bit tight but you expect that from brand new and was the feeling that bed in, no pressure points). Lining felt really good, perfect shape for me in a slight oval so chin is a good distance from the front. And very light - less than 1300g, pin lock visor and good venting. Bought it today, they matched Lids Direct for price - only £169.99 for plain white and comes with a clear and tinted visor and pinlock. Had to order it in so will have it in a day or two. Will update on how I get on with it. So, in a very long whinded way I guess the only way to know for sure is to go and try as many lids on as possible. Be honest with the sales person and they should help you out. Happy hunting!
Also tried a Shuberth S2 sport. Was ok but sizing seemed off on me - medium too small and large too big! Very big shell too.
Popped into J&S Tried the Shuberth S2 and Shoei NXR Both lids fit good - the Shuberth is heavier and looks big, compared to the NXR. The Shuberth looked tacky to me..the vent look cheap..was expecting more from a £500 lid! In 2 minds, budget is £300 max..not sure what the NXR is like on wind noise.. http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/193515 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shoei-NXR...875981?hash=item1c5b5c8b8d:g:EbsAAOSwo0JWJMuO
You'll be hard pressed to find any shell smaller than the NXR, especially if you're a small or medium. Not worn the NXR so couldn't comment on wind noise but most reviews say it's pretty quiet though not the quietest out there. As for money - depends if you want a plain or a fully jazzed up helmet. Plain you can get for £250 through this company http://www.justhelmets.co.uk/index....t&page=shop.browse&category_id=266&Itemid=259. They will price match against anything you can find elsewhere and take off 10% of the dfifference. They did that for me when I showed them how much Wheelup were selling the plain white for (http://www.wheelup.it/gb_en/motorcy...sfjEhI2HBGXchfS_-G9RALtGmdEBKzi1UwaArfh8P8HAQ) and it came out at less than £250 delivered. Only reason I didn't take it up myself was because the HJC RPHA 10+ felt a nicer fit and LidsDirect were selling them off for £169! Worth a goose...
Okay some options: £300 http://www.ebay.com/itm/SHOEI-NXR-Terminus-Tc-6-RF1200-RF-1200-RF-1200-many-sizes-/301583142690 https://www.louis-moto.co.uk/artikel/shoei-nxr-terminus-tc-9/216322 http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/193515 £315 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181904724572?euid=696d01cf7bcf4f54aa756c9f4b1c83bd&cp=1
That's a shame. Have you tried Wheelup as they are very well priced. Other than that I have never faulted SBS - excellent customer service and always very helpful.
Wheels up have the lid for £235 but only large left.. Spoke to the dealer were I got my bike from they said £300+ £15 delivery for the shane shakey lid - this is still a current design, the black marque z is discontinued...
Careful if you order from USA Sam, I know the Arai has different sizing for that market, not sure if other brands are the same.
I love my NXR but rode without ear plugs for 10 mins the other day and it is noisy without. I couldn't bear it for long minus plugs. Mind you i only have std Honda screen which seems to channel wind right at your lid. I do use the chin curtain all year round. As already mentioned they are just about the smallest shell you can get..so avoids having balloon head, and lighter.
Ian, will be ordering from the uk.. Just thinking my xr1100 gets noisy..I have a intercom fitted and anything past 50mph I can't hear the speakers..
Also, my NXR was really tight to put on when new, but broke it nicely soon after. This is normal I was told by Shoei guys who sized me.
Just a heads up I've been looking at new lids too. And the HJC rpha-10, x-lite carbon and the Arai Rx7 are all releasing a new updated version after motorcycle live. The HJC and X-lite are not much different apart from the in linings are better for wind noise. The Rx7 is completely different and looks like it might be the one to buy next year. They are calling it Rx7v the sneak reviews looks really good. I'm currently using the cal crutch low rx7 and think I'm swaying towards the X-lite carbon purely for money value.
The new RPHA 11 looks nice - quite different from the 10Plus with a new shape around the base and an emergency cheek release mech like the NXR.
