Robots are used to create a view/index of the interporn, ie google use them so they can give you search results. They have little to do with adverts which are primarily driven by things such as cookies and session headers. You might be right Carl most of the Germans I work with have Robot traits , but for sure its a low grade intelligence robot that had them removed from the streets of London. This is a very similar face he pulled when I was introduced to him at City Hall and went of script by asking him why he forced TfL to terminate all operational contracts using them , funny enough I have never been invited back again: The grin on my face lasted for days.
