Well, we've all had our fair share of back tyre 'flats' but I can't remember ever getting a nail in the front. Funny how it's (almost) always the rear tyre. I mean, you'd have thort the front tyre must have gone over the nail first. If a nail's entered the tyre it's invariably entered pointy end first but I doubt our roads are scattered with nails stood precariously on their heads. And anyway, if they were they'd got thru the front tyre first. What must happen is that the front tyre goes over the nail and sometimes, but by no means always, by chance, flicks it upright just in time for it to be in a position to pierce the back tyre. Makes me wonder how many nails/screws are lying about (on their sides?) on our roads that I run over without catching a puncture. Nick.
a few years back I got through 3 back tyres in one weekend, one nail next one a chunk of flint and the third a piece of steel
The nail is lying horizontally in the road. Your front tyre runs over said nail at speed and flips it up a tadge so it's just at the right angle to 'Spear' ya rear as it powers over it!
If you walk down a road and look into the gutter you will be surprised at just how many sharp objects are about. A Canadian guy commented to me some years ago about this, saying 'You guys must get a lot of punctures' I often come home with two or three nails/screws in my pocket now. As far as the rear tyre 'catching it'.............. It's got a flatter profile.......... and costs more.
your bike likes it at the rear Never had a front ....thank god, lets keep it like that .......way harder to control
had this beauty in my Suzuki, previously i was doing 120, i was 2 hours from my house, so had to ride back carefully because i didn't want to pull it out because the tyre might of deflated. When i get home the screw went sideways and didnt puncture it.
Could it be the 'Turning' force of the back wheel, lifting the object. as opposed to the 'rolling' of the front? Mike.
