I am going to get a set of Works wheels for our GT86. I want to get the OE Michelins onto these wheels and a set of Winter tyres to fit onto the Standard wheels. What winter tyres has people used in the past and what would you recommend cheers As it's going on a Sports Coupe I would rather get a good recombination that going for the cheapest
Conti wintercontact ts830p Great winter tyres, excellent wet weather and snow performance, run at 150+ on autobahn and excellent stability. Used Dunlops with very good results and Nokians, got them on the wife's Volvo and did not bother to change the wheels this year, so have run all summer, excellent all round tyre. Average results with Kumhos and Michelins in the past.
Pirelli Superbike Sc 0, 1, or 2 slicks are by far the best tyres for winter, only little girls would think about anything else....
Yep, longest time I have owned a car, just off an a European trip to the Pyrenees and along the Med, equipped with a new set of PSS's to rag , so that's 700 quid about to to left all over France on top of the mega fuel bill coming up as the bloody thing only averages low 20s on a good day
Vredstien wintrac extreme on my wife's subaru made a massive difference( no fun for me a car doesn't want to go sideways now)
I had some very over priced Dunlop's on my A8, and was not impressed with their quality and wear. Previous to that I had some mid level (I'll check the name tomorrow as they are still in the garage, free to anyone who wants to pick them up) tyres on my 3.0TDI CLS, and they were superb, took me all through the Yorkshire dales in heavy snow without an issue.
Just to chuck a little more info into the mix. I've recently put some all-seasons on my car as a compromise. These are the ones. Falken Euroall Season AS200. They're a winter tread pattern but not the full winter tyre compound. Obviously I've not tried them in snow but my guess is that they'll be significantly better than a summer tyre but obviously not as good as a proper winter. I've been very impressed with them so far. Good dry grip. Rock solid in the wet, really seem to shift the water. I got them from Tyre Leader for a good price.
We run Vredestien Wintrac Extreme on Wife's Merc Estate, cracking Winter Tyre and won quite a few group tests. http://www.vredestein.co.uk/car-tyres/winter/wintrac-xtreme/info/ Tyres bought ready to go on the spare wheels with our youngest getting involved! Hmmmmm.........never though about putting the kids in the tyre to keep them quiet on long journeys, I guess some do gooder will have an issue with it though
