Hi all I've just seen this lovely looking 2009 Cbr on eBay . Looks the dogs dangles . But is a cat c recorded . Now I know it doesn't take much for an insurance company to right off bikes ,so I'm pretty sure this bike will be almost like new ,but cat c can affect insurance payouts if its wrote off again and lots of people wouldn't touch one so resale can be a problem , ive seen bikes of this age for around £5500 he is asking £5400 or best offer what do you think a fair price is ? Is it anyone from this forum who owns it ? 2009 HONDA CBR 1000 RR-9 FIREBLADE | eBay
A fair price would be what they normally cost and then take off the cost to repair the damage. If the damage is already repaired than I'd say around 10-15% under the normal cost because of the issues of reselling due to most people not wanting to touch a write off (although you can pay to have them inspected and the cat C taken off the report)
Looking at the description its repaired and has been used throughout this year. My 2006 blade is a cat D and that didnt put me off. I would ask what the damage was that made it a cat C though, although it could just have been the cost of repair. In terms of resale value, just factor that in with how long you would keep it as it would be even easier to sell on when older and cheaper down the line. My take on making an offer is, he's asking offers on £5400, which means he wants £5000. So turn up with £4800 cash and i reckon its yours.
I would buy it....they were going to cat c my duke for a smashed up fairing and headlight. its not a wonder insurance is so high with companies so quick to write off bikes and cars.
Personally I wouldent bother, better spending the same money on a slightly older but low mileage and well specced bike.
I'd buy it. He's told you what he as done and a a Cat C is nothing. The only problem I can see is when you come to sell it on.
Does it cost more to insure a cat C / D ? As long as you know what's happened and the seller is honest I would not have a problem buying
i'd have no probs buying a cat C as long as i knew the history, obvioulsy goes without saying that all the fairings would come off to give a proper inspection though.
