Well after starting a thread on this subject back in November 2018 I've finally put my money where my mouth is and got one!! Having recently been looking at Crf 450s, Aprilia Dorsoduro, Cbr 954s and god knows what else, I've gone back to what I originally wanted and what I used to drool over when I was a spotty lanky pastey faced goon in my early 20's!! Managed to find this with 18k miles on it, totally original, enthusiast owner, paid £3425 for it!! At average less than 1k miles a year its had a fairly easy life, everything looks nice and fresh, couldn't be happier. Little birthday present to myself!!
Nice purchase, happy birthday PauloHRC! That's really clean. Looks like it has new boots and new chain too! Chin
Of course this isn't my first time into the Yamaha fold, here I am on my second bike ever and my first brand new bike, a 2002 R6 ironically in the same colours as the 'old' R1 I've just bought..... Feeling nostalgic all of a sudden.... Meant to be. I remain a Honda man through and through though!!
Loved mine . 1998 it's the only bike I've ever really lusted after.. it was squashed by a lorry when I lent it to a friend .. The bikes I've had since I've just bought for the sake of having a bike. I keep looking for another one as the wife liked to ride it. But I cant justify the money.
Very nice mate! I’ve always lusted after the 98 red and white, I was ten when it came out and I’ve never not wanted one. Unfortunately out of my price range now in that scheme and i would never ride it as I’d want it to be original. very jealous! Hope you enjoy your self isolation on it and Happy birthday too
Looks lovely @PauloHRC. I had an 01 R6 in blue, traded it for my first 954. I didn't get back to Yam until 05 when I bought an R1, but they'd made it a bit too tame for me by then. The earlier bikes are definitely the place to go.
Just ordered this arrow titanium tri oval exhaust kit with carbon hanger. There is not alot of aftermarket exhausts for these 20 year old R1s anymore. Well there is but they're all stubby ones or modern looking ones with carbon end caps etc..... Which look great, but not on a 20 year old bike. I wanted something that would suit the looks of the 5jj and somethings that looks like it was made around the same era! This arrow is 'new old stock' from an arrow supplier in Greece, I think it will really look the part!
