250LC then 350LC at the bottom Hiya everyone thought its about time I got round to putting some piccies up of my 250 lc 1982 uk bike matching nums boought it as a runner but boy did it have some surprises install for me  original add picture ooh how photography can hide a multiple of sins tank of next to my dads red one of his 350 gonna me mars bars to got the footrest hanger of and cleaned them all the bolts are totally wrong engine before wazzing it out of the frame the exhaust gaskets had been spraying the entire engine lol looks like it was painted with enamel or something on the bench time for the horrors to begin  hmm tube of sealant instead of a gasket shoddy lol then was confronted with this...... oh Sh** reckon the cause was a wrong spark plug the previous owner had put in whats everyones opinion on the matter?
hmmm metal fillings wonder what caused them - from a circlip and washer flying of the kickstart gearing what have we here talk about a shock a loose washer and this in the same side as well just loose... some light marks oh the joy well all the suprises over well I think  wirings shot and am wondering wether to split the crankcases looking at the state of the things I've discovered already whats everyone think? what was weird was the bike ran quite well on the path and down the street once lol but the throttle was extremely sluggish bellow 3thouh rpm maybe due to the piston? gotta deal with the front end that should be relatively easy also the centre stand lugs the 2 outer ones seem to have been ground in half? oh yeah thank god for the barrels seem ok though guess thats a massive plus and the frame is great and the wheels mark free just needs alot of tlc hope you all enjoy the thread would love to hear oppinions, Thanks for all the advice over the past few weeks, Tom well just got the frame back from the powder coaters really happy but the numbers were extremely faint so had them mask it so I could fill it in with enamel spray
Bolted the shock on to check for fit using a draw bolt to insert the bushes for the swinging arm (b&Q £10 for the bits) finished for the night (rear wheel just using it to prop the bike up) fitted the shock swinging arm air box with new seals and loom all the bolts are stainless steel I'm putting on just using the old ones for reference at the moment. got stainless ones to go on got a kit with them all in for a fraction o the price of yam ones as the price of yam ones are crazy ok for a show bike but for this 250 I plan on riding it so using stainless as it saves a fortune and u don't get the green finish corroding after 2 years got green ones for the bars so it looks good but the rest all all stainless. gonna fit the front forks tomorrow with the bars and switchgear buzzing at the moment spent money where it needs it and trust me lol nearly gave myself a heart attack looking at the receipts lol still gotta buy pistons yet haha Quick update just of to watch man u at my uncles in 20 mins got a slight problem the battery is flat haha after a bit of head scratching lol remembered I hadn't charged it anyways firstly sorry for the bad pics didn't have my tripod out there pushing on iso 1000 lighting is pants spent the past two days sourcing parts got a set of genuine nos barrels and pistons for a really good price and a cylinder head in orig yam paint also a seat cover will put piccies on when I fit it tomorrow inserted the bottom bearing cup for taper roller barings but this presented a problem inserting the cup in enough due to the lengh of the bottom bearing cup required a drift phoned loads of bearing companies up and they didn't have a clue what i was going on about gutted so a trip to halfords with a vernier caliper produced this a perfect fit bearing cup inserted Wooot assembled the foot pegs loosely onto the frame
rear seat cowl on pretty chuffed gonna get the tankset resprayed once the bike is built forks in the yolks ready to put the oil in then I can get the bars on and switchgear can't wait got a really good set of pattern mirrors the other day they look class and a much cheaper option to the gen ones we are putting on the 350 lc will be making some rapid progress over the next 2 days will keep u all updated Hope u enjoy, Tom problem is lol I ran out haha between this and parts for my 08 rs125 (de restrcting parts, seat cowl and arrow pipe) also some money towards the TT trip reckon end of the month should be finished though got a few more images sold so fingers crossed Ill have enough to finish it yaaay just gotta get tyres new stator as the old one was bust still removing it er water pump gaskets wheel bearings crank case sealant and er oh yeah caliper bits and bobs pads and new caliper pistons) and the odd seal here and there but thats it really the nos barrels were a luxury but happy with what i payed for them on a plus not the sprocket and chain just arrived so some more bits to fit set a goal of the end of the month as gotta move it to get dads rr in the garage when he gets it lol I'll put a break down of whats been spent when its completed will be interesting I think Thanks for the comments everyone Tom should be another update later on tonight Just remembered bout these some repair work I had done by a friend of mine who is an ace mechanic races as well was really amazed at the quality of the repairs Ok quick update everyone finally got all the forks together yaay lol so now really starting to fly hagon springs finally in right hand switch gear roughly on with master cylinder ( know the plastic throttle tubes gotta go on just trying to reduce amount of bolts in bags lol way to many bars on with left hand switch gear few green bolts pinched from the 350 lc boxes (poor 350 lol)
another view of the bars Finally where we are up to tonight gonna really crack on with it tomorrow and spend a full day on it (hope dad doesn't realize Ive riffled his brand new fork stanchions lol dooohh forgot he reads this at work sorry dad hahaha had to take the horn bracket off as Ive gotta fit the brake hoses (which I'm waiting on off good ridge seems to be a long delay with them and Aprillia whats the world coming to hey lol hope u all enjoy Tom year 2010 boy oh boy have I been a busy bee haha totally ran out of money for doing the lc's when i bought 2 race bikes a 675 and a suzuki mx bike an a gixer haha defected to 4 strokes to get used to them for racing the iom selling the mx bike at the mo so time for the lc to gather pace again. stripped the engine and split the crankcases tonight its had a very bad seizure at one point as theres some heavy cases in the right hand side where the crank sits on the top and the bottom of the cases whats everyone is the best thing to do leave it or smooth it out Ill get some pictures tonight(monday) going to get them vapour blasted to as they are so grubby its untrue anyone know anywhere near Manchester thats good. also trying to decide whether to get a completely brand new balanced crank just got to decide on the make or get it rebuilt steadily been collecting nos parts to finish the bike turns out this is going to be the easier of the two to do to concours. So swapping the hagon rear shock and the second hand loom and pattern headlight onto the 350 lc till i can get genuine for that managed to get hold of brand new nos barrels and pistons and a good cylinder head and a nos rev counter and a nos blue dot exhaust so still on the hunt for... nos blue dot right exhaust, nos speedo, nos side cases, nos tankset in mars bar black amongst other little parts hopefully will have it done intime for stafford or at least most of it together Tom Finally got the crank pictures took and the ones of the engine dammage whats everyone reckon is the prognossis on the cases and where and how should I get them fixed if needed any reccomendations gonna get the crank checked out I think looks pretty decent barring the damage to the stator end will see what the crank people say though before I dive in an get it rebalanced and rebuilt if it needs it plan for this week is to strip the carbs and drop them and the engine cases in for blasting after deciding what to do about the case dammage and to get the crank sent to the rebuilders to get it checked out then start putting the engine together so close now its unbelievable cant wait Thanks, Tom Engine Cases Top Case damage only on one side of the engine Bottom Case Damage only on one side of the engine Crank
Finally got the clocks together result new speedo new rev counter etc just a shame about the 4l3 front clock case another nos part to be on the hunt for Bike is really coming together now just looking forward to the bike being finished and getting the rest of the bits on hope you all enjoy the pictures, Thanks, Tom
Hope everyone enjoys the build Ill keep updating as we go along although It may be a little while as the blade's got to take priority managed to aquire a brand new in the box seat of the japanese spec LC blows the spots of the uk seat so going to swap the body work on the 250 - the 350
our german import 350 lc lots of stuff needing doing on this one every nut and bolt goin to be perfect well thats the intention anyway on to the pics heres the original add pic from ebay when we got it home the bike that started my obsession with motorbikes doing the fork legs when we were just starting to learn Thats a bit better The exhaust of the bike banged dinted cut and shut sorting the footrest hanger out ahh thats better with a set of good exhausts we picked up Thought I'd do the wheels polishing them took ages
old vs resprayed massive improvement carb cleaning engine doesn't look to bad not been rebored at any time either which ties in with the millage on the clocks where we are up to at the mo ready for powder coating Tom 2010 Got the frame back from the powder coaters gonna have to take some pictures it amazed me today how good the 350 lc engine actually is in comparrison to my 250 lc really overjoyed since stripping it that the millage on the clocks seems to check out with the engine condition she truly is a minter a propper diamond in the ruff well to me anyway haha ^_^ still on the hunt for a set of exhaust for it taking forever to find a set of new ones
Oh man does that bring back memorys!! Great pictures Tom and a lot of work for you there. Love the clock shot.

heres a few on my lc,s from the last 4-5 years however like a complete t~~t i no longer own any off them in a complete spurr of moment decision. hope you like them tom. cant wait to see pics of yours when finished. . this is a pair i had 2 restore. the 250 on the left i just tarted up for an everyday runaround the 350 got the full treatment but sold it before getting panels redone. here it is. this is how the 250 runaround ended up. then i got a white/red and done this one but even better. of all the restored lc,s i,d seen it has to be in top 3. here it is. damn do i want another stroker after seen these pics again.
they were great you can still get them made which i had for both bikes but a 6 month wait. back in my teens when i first had a 350 it had allspeeds on it and the sound always sticks with me. i kept the original pipes with it but just loved the sound. the bike still ran sweet without any rejetting. selling the last 1 the red striper was the biggest mistake i,ve made in biking terms.
awesome yup the original 350 pipes with the thick flanges and 0 dot are really really hard to find lately been on the hunt for some for an age so think Ill prob get all speeds if some dont turn up soon love the red striper
