Hi All, just looking for feedback. Purchased a 2008MY Fireblade from a Yamaha Dealer. They did a vey comprensive service before i took delivery but looking thru the service notes i noticed they put it Yamalube 10w-40. Honda recommend 10w-30. Anything i need to be worried about with them putting in Yamalube 10w-40 instead of 10w-30? I assume its just a badged name for another oil manufacturers product?
I would not be concerned. The grade is perfectly suitable. And Yamalube is known for being a high-end product. (I owned a Yamaha previously).
It’s nothing to worry about. However, if you wake up one morning and the blade has come out in a rash, you know what’s caused it.
I know it might start a flame war - but what is the preferred oil? I do occasional trackdays so was looking to drain it and replace with Castrol 10w-30 Power1 racing 4t
Its all based on temperature for oil type viscosity 10/30 is for a cooler running environment than 10/40, so on the track in summer 10/40 great, during winter commute 10/30 but both will be fine for all year round, a lot of manuals quote different oils for different country's
I would agree with using Castrol, I personally think they are the best. Others may recommend Motul, or something else. The true answer is use whatever meets the JASO spec:
Unless you’re thrashing the bike I don’t think it matters as long as you use a good quality oil of the right spec and weight. I put Motul 7100 in my blade as it’s getting abused on track.
Me too. Its my go to oil for track on my (ex) GSXR 750 K8. Upgraded to the Blade so about to do my 1st Trackday on a Blade (when its slightly warmer).
yam lube synthetic is a quality oil, if my memory serves me right, my dealer said is was made by Motul. I personally do not subscribe to 10/30 grade so my RR8 has only had 10/50 and the occasional 10/40. thinner oil will release more power of the engine, can be useful on track if you are chasing the last bhp
