It's new tyre time and while the OEM tyres are good I want more than 2500 from a rear.

I'm not the fastest of riders, and my tyres always square off way before the tread on the sides is used. I may do the odd track day but will be pottering around in the novices.

After looking at a few threads on here I have thought about getting some PR4s, some members say they are getting 5k from a rear, is thes feasable? I have gotten a quote from my local place of £264 for a pair, fitted to the bike, is this a good price?

Are there any other tyres I should be considering? My mate has Metzeller Z6s on his Blackbird and has done over 5k on them and they still have plenty left.

    My bike is a 2013 1000RR

    Cheers.

Hi, sounds a familiar riding style to myself. I have fitted Bridgestone T30's and have had no problems with them so far, approx 500miles and £280 fitted to bike. I understand that Ron Haslam uses them for his track school. The PR4's do seem to be the most popular tyre though. The Pirelli Angel is possibly another choice but sometimes it comes down to personal preference/price.

PR4s are excellent for all conditions wet, cold, hot, road and track, I cant fault them had them on the 2013 blade and now on the multistrada, yes 4-5000 miles is perfectly achievable and £260 fitted is a good deal :)

Just to be fair the Sportsmart 2's also get a good reviews as do the new Metzler M7RR tyres but I havent used these as I am so happy with the Michelins

Plus 1 on the PR4's, only had mine on for about 400 miles but ridden them hard in wet and dry and I think they are awesome.

The Metzelers are only a few quid less so I think I'll go with the PR4s

    Cheers.

Just put some PR4 on the Speed Triple, they seem fine. TyreLeader cheapest for supply only, but £264 fitted to the bike not a bad price.

Hi l3nny. I had exactly the same dilema as you so decided to go down the sport/touring tyre route. Read loads of reviews over and over again and eventually went for the Pirelli Angel GT. Had them fitted last week.

    Yes & No Garry!

Yes these Tyres are ACE and have won the PB Ultimate Road and Track Tyre test for the last few years running despite them being a 4 year old design.

Ultimately they are grippier than the PR4's at a Track Day, but U need to be at the mid to top end of the Fast Group to make that show.

Downside is they don't last, got less than 2K outa my set and I don't Track the Blade, so all road use.

I've run both on my Blade and the PR4's win hands down for road use and last 2-3 times longer than the Pirelli's

I think you are thinking of the Pirelli Rosso Corsa, thats the gripy fast road/track tyre, the rosso 2 is the one down from that, a little less grip but last longer?
Its the Rosso Corsa that won the PB tyres track test btw

I may give the new M7's a try for road, they do seem to be getting good reviews at the moment, love the Dunlop D211 or D212 for the track (and a bit on road when i can't be arsed to swap them lol)

Just had Metzeler M7 RR's fitted at my local Honda dealer for £207:)
Best tyres i have used to date on any bike, totally transformed my experience of the Blade from the Qualifier 2's that it came with. So much more confidence from the off, loads of grip and stable at high speeds. Can't comment on mileage yet but will be sticking with these for a while.

PR4s fitted. Only done a few miles in them and it's probably because the other tyres were squarer than spongebob's pants but the bike handles so much better.
Will hopefully give them a proper scrub in at the weekend

After a couple of long rides on the PR4s I couldn't be more pleased. First time I went out it started raining and a car pulled out on me causing me to jam on the breaks, with a non ABS bike this would usually result in the front end locking up. Not with the PR4s. Just stopped gracefully.
