Yoshi R77 heat shield not lining up

    Just fitted the above to my 2012 blade this evening, and for the life of me I cannot get the heat shield to align with the belly pan. It sits about 10mm lower than the belly pan at the bottom and the gap between the two goes from 3mm or so at the top to about 10mm lower down. Short of butchering and bending the lower heatshield bracket I can't see how I can sort it?

    I've one a bit of a search and I can see its a common issue but no definitive advice that I could find

    Also, where does the baffle fit? It doesn't appear to drop in the end of the exhaust like most would, so do I have to remove the can and fit it at the bottom end?

    The baffle does go in the end.

    If you look near the swing arm there should be a hole for the baffle to fit in.

    I'll post a pic of mine up tomorrow to show you

    On mine the hole wasn't fully punched out, I had to knock it out with a pin punch

    Cheers for the replies. Yeah I have the same issue whereby my hole is not punched out either. Is it best to remove the can and punch it out from the outside inwards then? When I offered the baffle up and tried to push it into the exhaust it didn't seem like it wanted to fit in there.

    Any tips on aligning the heat shield?

    The baffle is a tight fit.

    For info it is pretty much just a noise killer with very minimal effects on power and torque up the top end.

    Baffle out the bike produces less power and torque all the way up to bout 10000 rpm.

    Yes knock the bung inwards with the can off. It doesnt take much to do it.

    I cant quote for your model heatshield as my bike is a 2011 but I had to "adjust" the bottom bracket a bit, I found best way get the top right then tighten that bracket then bend the bottom one till the gap is even. If the pipe isnt pushed all the way onto the headers that can create problems with heatshield alignment as well.

    Yeah it seems to me as if the bottom bracket is just a little too long by around 10mm. The other two mounting points lined up perfectly, and there's a decent gap of around 8mm between the can and swing arm (I read another post where someone had 1.5mm or so!) Can is fully onto the pipes also.

    I'll have a bit of a play this evening again and try to align it better

    Hahaha!! Brilliant!

    I've managed to sort it. A bit of bending was required on the bottom bracket, and an order of sequence for tightening the three securing bolts seemed to pull everything in line.

    I test rode it this evening for the first time since fitting - wow!! It sounds gorgeous. A lovely smooth rumble at idle and low revs, then a howl through the midrange that is just do addictive. It's very torquey low down now compared to my gutted stock can; I guess due to increased back pressure. I have the baffle in too so that I'm all ready to go on track on Monday - 98dB limit unfortunately, although the consensus on here seems to be it runs better in the midrange with the baffle fitted

    If you are removing and replacing the baffle on the bike, its easy to drop the screw into the tailpiece. I replaced mine with a non stainless M6 socket head that can be easily retrieved with a magnetic pick up tool.
    Also cut a small straight section off a 5mm allen key 35mm long and use that in the screw with a small shifting spanner makes accessing the screw a lot easier.

    It's a sod isn't it. I took the back box off, laid on my back with the exhaust above me so that gravity would send the bolt back out of the hole! Worked a treat but it'd be nice to take the baffle out without all that hassle!

    LOL I actually managed to push the rubber grommet into the hole as well. That was fun retrieving that!

    How did you retrieve it? Seems a near impossible task?!

    Its a pain in the ass.

    1. Remove muffler
    2. Arm yourself with a decent pair of tweezers or very fine long nosed pliers.
    3. Hold the muffler over your head so that the hole is the lowest part and shake it about until the grommett appears over the hole.
    4. Try to refrain from screaming or swearing out loud or throwing the pipe in the bin during this process.
    5. Grip the grommett with the tweezers and pull it out through the hole.(Easier said than done, but hey, its possible, I did it)

    Alternative method:

    Forget about it and maybe buy another grommett someday.

    Any horror fitting stories from the Akro boys or is it all plain sailing for that Zorst?
