Reminds me of a giant encirclement clamp. You'd be surprised how many times a ship at sea springs a leak in the piping. Lots of straub couplings are kept on hand to keep the leak at bay until you can get to port, cut it out and repair it.

i doubt it we had to have a specialist bomb search team probe it and at 8 metres they found something and that’s why it’s battered and not sheeted . Also had a bloke with us all the time I was digging looking for anything.
