Sounds like a tired battery - from memory @blink you have a trickle charger but my 2016 lead acid still gave up after just over three years and that was always on an optimate. I went for a Lithium and new trickle charger nearly two years ago and not had an issue since. Plenty on here say that with the lithium you don’t need the trickle charger but I wen5 for one anyway.

Didnt think of that it turns quick enough though juat takes a bit to actually start.

Hoping it's cheaper than the £500 quid for the bmw battery when it does need replacing

If you are getting a Lithium battery, don't use an ordinary trickle charger. Has to be a dedicated lithium one. Just FWI

the bmw battery isn’t expensive it’s just all the coding to go with it.

something simple like putting a cover on it will make a difference As it’s been a bit colder lately and the battery’s loose charge and enough to cause what you are saying.

Track Day Build Continues: Removed intake flaps and associated superfluous kit on Wednesday (no pics though).

If it's not a Lithium Oximate jobby, don't connect it to a lithium battery. It might work OK for a day or two, but risk of fire etc isn't worth it.

Hey. Just been reading the comments on here about the battery and charging.

This is just my opinion. I read the handbook (I know!!) on my Honda CBR650R.. and it says clearly "Charge the battery once a month if the bike is not used often".

So I do the same with my Blade. Charge the battery once a month on a trickle charger. I just put the CTEK charger on until it tells me the battery is full. Then take it off. I've had zero issues.

I feel the battery needs a tiny bit of cycling (allowing it to drain a little naturally) to keep it tip top.

I agree Lithium is the way forward though. What brands do people recommend?

I asked about this when I had my valve clearance serviced. The guy said it’s normal , it’s a very small battery for the bike it’s in. It takes between 4/5 revolutions before it starts whereas my MT10 is 1-3.

He did a battery condition test as part of the service and it was good and nothing needed replacing.

I made a conscious effort to try get it on an Optimate every week. At the time I bought the blade I was in a ground floor flat, I would wheel it to my window and run an optimate through the window for a couple of hours a week. Mine has an alarm on it as well which inevitably will drain some of the battery juice.

Now that it’s in a garage, I can keep the optimate permanently.

Took the Blade to work yesterday (60 miles each way cross country). Really wasn't gelling with it in the morning.

In the evening.. rode it a bit harder, and one gear lower (eg 4th gear at 60mph, 5th gear at 70mph).. and the thing just comes alive, it is so much fun. Yoshi pipe is LOUD.. going to try it with the baffle back in!

Fuel light came on, put just over 12 litres in, as per the owners manual. Like clockwork.
