re IAT just check you haven't pulled any of the wires out or damaged them. The warming up thing is basically an ECU reset, which I personally do occasionally. The ECU 'learns' a few things and uses this data to control idle etc could be a good call. Though peeps normally only do when the motor revs +/-500K after fitting a new can. http://1000rr.co.uk/general-1000rr-discussion/11364.htm
Off to do the ECU reset - the battery had been off for days while I was working on it so that's possibly the cause! Updates to follow!
well - did the test and no luck Not looking at it now till Sunday earliest Will look for an IACV on ebay - even if I have to buy a few parts (TPS could also be tried) its less than an hours labour at a dealer. Other plan is tank off to have a look at vacume tubed under fuel rail but did not touch / clean that area of the bike
Idle Control Value with assembly purchased which I hope to have for Sunday - comes complete with housing and pipes - be sods law when I go to remove current one I fine the air pipe has slipped off - well if that's the case I can just re-list it.
Good luck mate. wish i could help you, but if i had a go at sorting it, you'd have enough bits left over to make a trike dude.
Thanks Si - I've had airbox etc. off a few times in the past so annoying I've knocked something - it will sort I know its just the hoops to get there and annoying as bike looking cleaner than it has for ages - when I post before and after pics folk will see - its a bloody nightmare under the tank with pipes / cables / connectors / ECU etc.
I now have the IACV as below - will look to remove tank and take some photos of how pipes etc. are routed BEFORE I start to remove current and fit replacement. Will also give the back of the engine a clean up while tank removed as that is also filthy - then its just electrical tray / underseat area to clean and bike will have had a full clean up. Once its fixed its oil change and its set for sprint / summer
Tank removed tonight, much better access to back of throttle bodies Cleaned up back of engine and swapped the internal part of the valve housing - so swap entire unit would have involved removal of the entire lower fuel rail and just thought 'nope, that's a step too far for me' Did a continuity test on the IACV and that is fine i.e. no broken wire leading to connector - still don't see how it could have broken but will find out if its fixed tomorrow night. there are so many cables / connectors on that bike its mad - will put some pics up of how it all comes apart so folk know what to expect. Just takes so long with all the clips etc.
Update.... Its still idling at around 4,000 revs - going to give Hunts and maybe Padgetts a call for advice / book it in. Its got to be something really small but feeling a bit defeated right now by it Spent £40 on parts to eliminate but just unable to trace it - everyone I have asked have said unmetered air from a missing vacuum pipe or similar , however I just cannot locate it Fingers crossed Hunts happy to collect it stripped down as it will save some labour if they don't have to do all that Have left the PCv unplugged - I am sure its not that but it eliminates it 100% Any final suggestions (other than leave well alone in future....) ?
Have you got a decent manual Al with diagrams of the hoses etc? I don't know how it could rev at 4K with all 4 butterflies shut in the TB; sounds like vacuum leak but with all the electronics these days its hard to be sure of anything. I wish I suggestion for you but its sounds like you have already been back over everything.
Well defeat admitted and its booked in on the 24th at Hunts who will pick it up for £20 which is good value The one final test from the official workshop manual is to see if the IACV moves when you switch on the ignition - I just need to take it all apart again Maybe its the TPS unit to replace - but horrid feeling this is integrated with the throttle bodies and retails at over a grand but lets see what happens. All folk I speak to say unregulated air / vacuum hose split or similar but leaving it for now
Well I've taken a punt and purchased a complete throttle body which includes the TPS unit / sensor which you can only replace WITH the throttle body - I'll look to swap over maybe at the weekend. Worked out bike collection and delivery = cost of throttle body and not much else it could be now. Yorkshire Gooner / Mark the supplier - lost track of all the bits from him now over the years!
You've done all you could pal, I'd leave it to Hunts now, they can easily and cheaply diagnostic the bike, it's not just the continuity of connections and voltages on terminals.
Al, I feel for you!. I'd be busting my balls and everyone around me by now. I'm sorry none of the suggestions here helped.
I have taken the decision to send the bike to Hunts with it stripped down and include the spare / replacement throttle body to fit if needed It goes in on the 24th - while annoying / frustrating it means 1 hit gets if fixed, I've looked at the throttle body and think its a step too far - plus if I muck it up it could end up a serious fault - at least at present the bike starts / runs without any issue other than fast idle
. OK. A BIG 'puff' for Hunt's...... I bought my 'blade over the internet, 'sight-unseen', so-to-speak, from Hunt's. When it turned up I found a couple of cosmetic issues that were not apparent in the on-line pic's. I called them up and was immediately put through to the owner, John Brown who, after listening to my concerns, without hesitation, said "No problem, Nick. Either bring it in or we'll post the bits to you 'toot sweet'." Sortid! They're a big (commercial) company but since then I've been pleasantly surprised by how much they have a genuine interest in the individual customer. I'm sure they'll sort your problem out for you Al. I'm definitely not the only one on the forum that can't wait to find out what the fault (simply a broken wire, a plug not fully connected, an air leak or maybe the OBC is having a HAL 2000 moment?) turns out to be. ATB, Nick.
Bike gets collected this morning so updates to follow! Hunts quite happy to collect it fully stripped down which should save some time for all concerned
