I've searched the forum, however I was wondering if there was a video or step by step idiots picture guide? I'm completely useless with a spanner so really need to see it done. I priced it up at the Newcastle Honda Dealer today and they said it would be a full days work and cost £624. Sorry if this thread annoys anyone, I have searched though, honest.
Wow robbing bastards! Took me 2 hours and was only going slow You'll probably find something on YouTube on how to remove the plastics! Then just split the rear sub frame as easiest way to take off the pegs
There is a video somewhere on here or on YouTube. My Honda charged about £80. Personally, I would not remove them. The blade looks like a scooter without them.
I think it's a personal taste thing, I've seen the Repsol Model without them and thought it looked the dogs tbh
Mate, take them off for sure. Tidies up the back of the bike and makes the lines of the tail flow through. Well worth the hassle. If you're thinking about taking a pillion at some point in the future put some street hooks on in place of the pegs.
I did mine a few weeks ago on my 13 plate Repsol. Take your time and if you rope a mate in then it helps. There is a small screw underneath the fuse box which hold the under tray thing in place and be careful how you slide off and slide back on the rear end. Once the rear subframe has been unbolted then you can sort of pull it downwards then another person get get an allen key in to undo the bolts. They are very tight. Took us less than 90 mins, so for a dealer to say a whole day then that really is day light robbery.
Just read through and apart from removing the rear light and splitting the subframe this is what i did.
Cheers Stupot, I need to find a friend lol. The undertray, tail tidy was done when I bought it thank God. I now know why the previous owner hadn't done it! I couldn't believe it when they quoted £624, I'm starting to think he was bullshiting and said it because it's a bit of a Marmite task.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their advise . Finished early from today with the bit between my teeth and thought you little feckers are getting removed. It's taken me just short of two hours, so this means I won't be using the Honda Dealer in Newcastle any day soon, £624 for a full day job It took a little bit of brute force, the only issue I found was removing the front left pillion bracket bolt. I sanded/cut a slight indent in the battery tray so it would allow me to remove the bolt, I dared not pull on it anymore. I didn't remove the tank or slacken any sub frame bolts, however if I had I probably wouldn't of had to modify tray. It wouldn't have been possible without you fellas, thank you from a complete mechanical biff Hopefully the pic will upload
Perhaps you should mention to the said dealer why it would be a days work when it only took yourself 2 hours?
I was thinking of ringing them and saying something but I thought I might come across as a bit of kn*b
Cheers mate I wasn't sure what they were for tbh? I use Kriega luggage so I never use the brackets to secure anything to either.
I'd be asking the question in your shoes! As clearly they were trying to rip you off, what happens next time when they try and charge you a £1000 for a service and valve check? I've had it before when a dealer quote £260 for the standard rear fender/huggger when going to another dealer it was only £15
