I use main dealer as they can be quite competitive if you ask nicely. I CBA anymore changing my own tyres and all my mates'. It's nice to let somebody else do the work.

My local Honda dealer will match the price of any genuine quote and throw in a loan bike while the work is done. Don't think you can knock that.

Regards the service intervals - is it still a valve clearance check at 16000 on a 12 blade?

Why would you need a loan Bike for a Tyre change?

I had a full set fitted, Drive in - Drive out, in less than 45 mins!

Well if you need to get to work and use the bike to commute hanging round for 45mins might not be an option. 45 mins is pretty quick for both tyres - I'd go and check they torqued up your caliper bolts mate.

Not that it matters, just purely out of interest.

Does anyone know what technically has been enhanced between say a 10 plate bike to the 12+ to support the intervals doubling, or at least Hondas statement on it?

Get that other parts like air filters are mileage and time, brake fluid time, but why can this bike now do more miles in 12 months without needing a service?

Watched the whole process so I know it's been done right.

Torquing up any bolt correctly takes no more time than not.

My punt is that the bikes have had an 8k oil/filter change for a long time, the 4k bit is just no more than a hang over to the schedules of yesteryear, and obviously commercially they have to be competitive against their competitors.

Apart from the air filter, the major items ie oil/filter & valves are at 8k multiples

Valves are 16k intervals. As are Spark Plugs, Air Cleaner, and exhaust gas actuator cable (All inspect except KO type air cleaners which are replace). Everything else is listed at 8k (For which everything is inspect not mandatory replace).

Agreed mate, I'm sure when you look closely at the pre 12's schedule the oil and filter are 8k but always asked my dealer (when in warranty) to change them both regardless of what i did between documented services, did check they did!

MrB will know the official line

16k on an air filter, they come out minging after 12, can't imagine much air getting into that engine at that interval.

16k on the valves is a multiple of 8..............

Agreed on the oil, the hammering that takes, IMO false economy leaving it in 8K, most important thing in the engine and probably the cheapest to replace.

My dealer confirmed the change from 4-8k on the 2012 Blade
although as its a 12 months or 8,000 service, I doubt many will do 8k a year?
Not sure what the average is

    Agree!

Not many outside dedicated commuters will do that mileage.

I'm on just shy of 2K at 3 months ownership, but that's with it all being still 'New & Exciting' can't see me timesing that by 4 for a full 12 months Biking.

Pick me... I think I did around 15k in a 12 month period once. More normal is about 9-10k because now that I'm old I like to take the train over xmas... (Not for the weather! For the pub!)
