Look, we even have worldwide endorsement for the trip in May! BBC News - CNN names Scotland as world's top destination
Spoke with Colin about doing a divert to Glencoe to show those who have not been what its like - said we'd go past Jimmy's house -we just need to work out divert / route for SUnday (and depends on weather)
Not in the official group but really hoping to make a bit of this as day trips. Havent a clue where i,ll be working but may book a few days off just in case.
Thought we were anyway mate? Got to be the main attraction?? Know we aren't planned to do Skye but wouldn't mind trying to squeeze that in if possible
Its your call Jimbo - and lots depends on time - you (and a small group) could decide to pass on the Applecross run and give you time to go onto Skye, head to Portree for a brew, then maybe ferry back to Malaig and go to digs - you could still see Eileen Donan castle but miss an awesome road up to the Commando memorial. One of those to discuss over a beer (or 3) and make a decision on Saturday - there are a few who know the routes well enough to give options I think (or you just feck off with a map and a satnav lol)
Really not fussed - go with the flow... Just honestly thought day 2 did glencoe from the map posted up. So much to see, guess you can't see it all. But for me glencoe was a real highlight of my trip...
Looking to do it Sunday am after the Scotsburgring if time / weather permits Weather / time / hangovers being 3 main factors I reckon! Glencoe just south of Fort Wiliam - about 15 miles south - and we are not staying in Fort William but Speen Bridge which is about 20 miles North West of Fort Bill (from memory without looking at a map)
Hi All Again and happy new year Well so far my new blade has only managed 49 miles from the dealer, rain rain and even more rain. However I have been keeping my hand in on my Pan. Still interested in joining the run, i live in dalgety bay and would be happy to join the pack, i would just play it by ear with digs and distance but i would like to tag along for quite a few days. So could someone be kind enough to remind me of when and where and confirm the number of days you are going to spend in Scotland, I can then organise the days off. So looking forward to this year and I better get the rest of the running in miles done, hopefully in a month or two before the meeting I just cannot bring myself to use it and run it in during this crap weather but I am dying to get on it. Cheers Paul
We will be heading up past your way on Friday the 10th of may, on our way to Grantown-on-Spey. From there (Saturday) up to Elgin, over to inverness, then head over to do the applecross run before ending up at Fort William. Sunday is the long road home via the west coast.
Only reason I didn't include Glencoe this time Jimbo is that although the views are to die for, the road through is rather boring. (pretty straight), and I know how good the roads are down the west coast. Easy solution though would be to cut off from the "scotsburg ring" and head down glencoe, then cut back towards Oban and carry on down the coast from there. Which to be honest would be a great run. 1 thing to take into account though is that the run from Fort William to Moffat will be a big 1 at around the 7-8 hour mark considering the size of group we are in.
Colin - we could take over the Green Welly - although from Glencoe its not really worth stopping - save time and head for Oban for 'fash and chips' on the seafront - love that road from Tyndrum over - real contrast to the run over Glencoe and just as epic - just watch speed through the 4 - 5 villages as its easy pickings for 3 points and money on a weekend.
