Don't divert from the original route fellas. Green welly is only 40 mins from fort William. Weather permitting, anyone who fancies it can do the green welly dash over glencoe with me after we have tucked you lot into your hotel beds lol Yes giv - it's Africa!
Excellent, sounds like i could join you on the friday and head home on the Sunday, I will book the days off and I can maybe arrange to meet you with some of the scottish lads, anyone planning this then give me a shout. Thanks Again Lads Looking forward to it
Here is a possible route to take in the Glencoe road. It would add an hour to the journey, but would be worth it for the views. Let me know what you think. Fort William, Highland, UK to Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway, UK - Google Maps
Colin - GLencoe is un-missable - Once at Tyndrum loads of options depending on weather / time but the West Coast route is one that will be new to me - I'd go with that quite happily - How many GoPro's will we have with us - and is anyone going to bring a laptop with external hard drive - its VERY easy to fill a few 32gb cards on these trips and good to be able to back them up and leave space for more footage.
Honestly the west coast roads from oban to lochgilphead and into inverary are amazing. You will be laughing all the way. There will be atleast 2 GoPros between us. Laptop wise I really need to throw mine in the bin. Honestly think it runs on coal and is in desperate need of kennelling up. I may get another couple of 32gb cards just for the trip.
Done the run from Oban to Lochgilphead a few times but one time I carried on straight down to Cambelltown. Amazing road which hugs the coastline so very twisty but nothing much to see once there and you have to turn round to come back from the peninsula.
Daily millages and saddle times added to first post. Going by this if we leave at around 9.30am in the mornings, we will be at our digs for 6pm latest including lunch breaks, petrol stops and photo opportunities.
I can see the amount of traffic is going to be a serious concern for some heading up from the South East - they won't be used to this level of traffic....
Went last year at the end of May and the damned midges ate us alive! We were camping though. One evening we went into Fort William for a beer and they were still out in force. Back at the campsite we had to wear headnets it was that bad, and even the Jungle Formula repellent I took to Africa didn't seem to have much effect!
Yup the midge can be cavernous little bastids at that time of year. Just need to man up and take the hit That clip was actually in a busy day on that road. I seen maybe 12 cars in an hour of driving, where as normally I'm lucky to see 5. The car doesn't really show you the corners that well or the undulations. I'll do another 1 in the Spring when I get the Sp out.
just a quick one is any one taking any security i.e disc locks .chains only asking as m&p have a disc lock for sale £12.99 was 24.99 or will the bikes be safe as houses
Never safe as houses mate. No matter where you go, although I could think of worse places I'd rather leave the bike. Tbh col and al have sourced some great biker friendly places so hopefully this consideration and safety in numbers should mean no bother comes of us. Personally, ill prob just bring a disk lock and hope for the best.
