I like it. Can't wait to see it at the NEC. It won't have that exhaust on long as we all tend to change that first of all. Not many bikes have a standard exhaust that doesn't look and sound pants.
Can have all the tech in the world I can only go so fast on the road. Rear end from a gsxr k5 and I don't like the front so in dragons den style I'm out!!
Speed wise I agree, but that rear end is like no bike I have seen, its hollow for a start.. http://www.mcnews.com.au/2015-yamaha-yzf-r1-full-reveal/#gallery/2015 Yamaha YZF-R1/18108/0
Good point I hadn't noticed that it was more from the side angle at least they haven't filled the gaps with mesh .
No wish to sidetrack the thread but feel I must comment about 'track focussed bikes' comments. I do not see my Blade as being a track focussed bike, nor did I feel that way about any of my previous sports bikes. There is a huge market for road bikes, of course they are far faster than they need to be for legal road use, but then again, when have bikers ever bothered about that ? I would have thought manufacturers make more profit from the road users than any other sector, but then maybe I am wrong. So IMO, it is relevant if some road riders think a bike is perhaps a bit OTT and others are better for road use. After all, everyone is entitled to their opinion and track demons and racers are just part of the motorcycling fraternity, not the be all and end all.
Did a screen grab of the webcast. Currently uploading it to YouTube for you, quality may be a bit off though as our internet speed isn't the best. UPDATE: If it ever finishes uploading it will be here
Last years r1 with tc etc was not better then blade without abs so dour gsxr will beat it then you still get the blade SP
Marquez , Rossi , Pedrosa & co all have far more rider Aids than we will have on a road bike, wanting them isn't for bad riders IMO !!
Having heard horror stories about magnesium wheels, how would these work on the road in regards to chipping or cracking?
Most prob would not even look at them, but yeah we all know that mag is FAR more corrosive than alloy so any chips etc that became effected with salt and water would suffer much more than an alloy wheel, my guess is Yamaha have addressed the issue with some kind of coating that is good for day to day use, but then in a throw away world maybe they have not.
Tbh I think only over time, years down the road a buyer may want to look at the wheels as being an issue. Plenty of Duc's have mag wheels and seem ok, its the "I just ride em's" that may have a failure.
