4 days? Ride to vianden in Luxembourg day one, down to freudenstadt on the b500 from Baden Baden on day two, back up to Bastogne via Rheinland pfalz day three, then home! Did this a few years back, couple of hundred miles a day, easily do able without having to push it too much, cheap beer and petrol in Luxembourg !
pete any cheeky chance you can just put a link to google maps on the area and places you are on about so I can see the trip.
Remal I'm down in London with work for a couple of days, but when I get back I'll try and do one go those fancy google maps screenshots. We always get the hull ferry to either Rotterdam or zeebrugge, ( bit out of your way I know) ; the first 100 Kms is pretty dull until you leave the industrialised areas; but even from Calais it's not a massive grind, take the major roads as far as Namur, then using the N66 & N68 into Luxembourg. We've stayed a couple of times at the hostellrie nagel in vianden, it's a good fifteen minute walk out town, but cheap 24 euros, although the hotel victor Hugo was only 45 euros each for a twin b&b with secure parking right in the center. From vianden to Baden Baden you have multiple choices, but the 919 to Hagenau is a cracking road, from Hagenau just bimble to Drusenheim and get the free ferry across the Rhine, much nicer than crossing a bridge in 45 seconds, from the ferry landing in Germany you're only twenty mins from the top of the B500. Stop. Breathe deeply. Take on a brew and a tab if needed, check your luggage is strapped on tight, get your head in a good place, go south to Freudenstadt, the 500 is just one of those roads you should do before you end your days, do it quick and it's a test of your ability, take it easy and it's got some stunning valley / mountain views to gaze at. In freudenstadt head for the marktplatz, we used a hotel on the square, can't ember the name but it had big brollies outside, and there were a few others close by, secure parking round the back, bar/brewery in the marktplatz was a great night out, good food followed by good beer and friendly locals until way too late. Next day, head north, either back up the 500, or use the 462, bit tighter not as quick. I'm going to see if I can get the Bike mag review of Rheinland Pfalz on here as that describes it better than I could mate. We stopped over in Wittlich-land, in a b&b. I think it was called Bastogne or similar, 45 euros b&b, driveway parking, but safe enough, never saw anyone on the streets, very quiet town. Day four - blat for boat!
I'm liking this thread..... A LOT! its right up my street. You could always head over to the Hartz Mountains, bob down to Colditz and back across via the Dambusters Dam. Nice weekend jaunt and I'll have a route though the mountains if you need it.
Jap, looks like i'll be picking your brains before our trip...we are doing 3 or 4 days in Germany before heading to Italy.... so need recs on good places to stay. Black forest area..... cheers dude.
Not a problem Si, Do you fancy taking in the Max Reisch Collection or the KTM Factory Tour on the way? This is a nice Round Robin Trip Believe it or not this is a really Biker Friendly place to stop over The Hotel Weisseespitze in Kaunertal, Tyrol
nice posts jap and may I say do you know a fazerPhil? and is your handle on twitter the same as on here? I only ask as Jap_sti 3 was on a post by phil this am on twitter?
Just loaded the link - wondering Walton? Will read in detail later. But you don't happen to know Bruce do you? Aka teapotone! That name rings a bell?
It is I one in the same. I know Phil very well indeed. ;-) You got me Jimbo. I've been rumbled LOL I met Bruce a couple of years back at the Overlanders Meeting at the Ace Cafe when I popped down with Ben my son he was 9 at the time. This was our first encounter, we've been good mates every since. When Bruce set off the second time I'd planned the route around Denmark, Norway, and back down through Finland I was then going to pop back from Lithuania or Poland & Bruce was going to do what he did. Luckly for Bruce he got the funding and sadly for me the timing was all wrong. I still keep in touch through Twitter and email. This is Ben know as Dash. I'll open another thread if you want to know more. Sorry for hijacking your thread by the way.

Here you go back on thread. This is one of the ways I tend to ride into Germany. Calais to Luxembourg just missing and tolls, the ride the length of the Mosel to Boppard! More to follow if required LOL
Please do mate, i've seen some of your stuff on twitter (via bruces pagey thingy) and bruce mentioned about you doing the first bit in norway etc, i know you get on some proper adventures so the lads will benefit from your knowledge no end - myself inc. bruce is one of my best pals, known him a few years now and done tonnes of miles and tours etc together - it was me that put him / pulled him (we were being a bit silly) out the river in germany! lol... if he hasnt told you, get him to show you the photo's... he was one lucky dude!!
some of the river roads can get a bit naughty speed wise!! some super fast sweeping corners along there. we normally pick it up from cochem and follow before heading south to the black forest. top road that!
Cheers Jimbo, those are some kind words my friend. It's always a bit difficult when you join a new forum knowing what to say and what not to so its much appreciated. I'm looking forward to my new adventures with you guys I'm hoping. I'll make sure to ask Bruce when I see him next. No doubt in London when he gets back to a Hero's Welcome!
I jump on at Trier heading North East. Then South and usually end up in Sonthofen as I used to be based there for 3-4 months of the year back in the 80's skiing. Now there are some seriously amazing roads down there. (note to self "Raymondo, put the passport down") LOL
