I had this issue with a Vauxhall Monterey about 14 years ago it was a leased car but we had local garage which serviced our company cars undertake the service, and as such was not Vauxhall approved it had the service and a couple of hours later i was going up the M6 when it boiled dry (with out any temp light showing) the issue was an incorrectley fitted rad hose which then was leaking i had i towed to the main dealers in Bolton and they wanted 10K for a new engine yes14 years ago so i got it back to the garage that did the service and with loads of pressure they did a strip down replaced all the goodies that were bent ect i even think the head had to be skimmed but i am not to up on engines anyhow i got it back working but the only issue after was at certain times when you put your foot down it made like a tappitt rattle so i had to drive a bit easy until it went back after contract was over which was about 6 months. So looking at this damage i suppose a good fitter with contacts should be able to strip and mend .Ps my son had a clio sport which the cam belt went and mashed the engine my brother in law has a garage (small) and he fixed it for £1500.00 a few years ago again major parts ect. The question is if you get no joy from Ford and you lay out say 6k for a rebuild do you then have a motor which is worth say £15k. Hope all pans out well on this Rob

    Email from dealer:

The engine has no compression. We have removed spark plugs and inserted a camera into the bores and have found that some of the valves are bent. Labour so far is £82.00 + vat. Without carrying out further removal of components we cannot be certain what caused it. The next step would be to remove cylinder head and check piston height on all cylinders to see if any are damaged. At this stage we could then provide the cost to repair what is required. With cost to remove the cylinder head would be £328.00 + vat. *It is all subject to what is found once the cylinder head is removed.*

5 year old and 80k is probably there abouts for a belt change but anyhow its happened now. if it were me i would either let them pop the head off to inspect inside or look at salvage dealers where they have an identical car damaged and buy the motor from it. if a dealer senses that a customer has no mechanical knowhow they can spin you all sorts of crap. robbing b******s.

Thought they would bring out the piston/valve train interface thing.

let them check, if its just a new valve train you might be lucky, but if its rods & pistons its a block splitting job and not worth repairing, buy a second hand motor from a breakers with warranty.

Ford have the most useless customer care team I have ever encountered :(

I had a 2003 Mondeo ST220 immaculate full service history with ford only 45'000 miles and all four doors were roting from the inside, a documented fault due to a manufacturing fault caused by them, they would not Honor my 10 year bodywork cover due to the fact that one body work inspection stamp was missing, when I contacted the dealer they said that it was an option to get it stamped at the time of service and that it was £25 and the previous owner had failed to pay for it, when I asked if it was an external inspection they said yes.... So they would not of even inspected inside the doors !

Ford customer services said it was "tough luck" and would not even offer any good will to repair it, even though I had bought 2 new cars off them in three years and was intending to buy another !

I really hope you get a better response from them, I really do would be nice to hear they can do the right thing !

    Good luck :)

So broken Cam belt by the sounds of it ... Surely they could have inspected the piston tops with the camera they had in looking at the bent valves ....
So everytime a cambelt breaks ford recommend a new engine .... Sounds a bit OTT to me!!
