That's what I'd do first, drain whatever oil is in it and look at what you have, if the amount is well under then lack of oil is your problem, you can run them VERY low without much problem it would have to be way out to seize it! Id pop in for you just give me a call, also Id help you too to remove etc, I can rebuild it for you BUT if oil was the problem then sad to say it could be scrap! You can reuse a large mp number of parts but cylinders are part of the block so if toasted then its the heap.. You can get a motor and swapping is easy, as said 5 hours NO problem, 3 at a rush... I also have a scope that I use to look in the motor, in the cylinders and crank without stripping, there are a few things you can listen and look for before pulling it from the bike.
Hold up a minute!!!!!! so you say the engine didnt seize up..you just heard a god awfull rattle that gets worse at higher revs? Please excuse me if Im wrong but have you checked the cam chain tensioner?? I had mine go on me on my previous blade and it sounds like the engines filled with spoons! I really thought my engine had gone and the dealer I showed wasnt to impressed either..but a few convos later and a gamble on a cam chain tensioner and SORTED! Youve never seen a happier man! please please check its not this before you rip out the power plant. I do hope your lucky too, as its a cheap easy fix. fingers crossed for you!
I had the tensioner go on my gixer but that made the noise only on de-acceleration where I would say this is the other way round, could it still be the problem?? I hope so
It could always be something simple, the answer is until you find it you won't know...don't keep running it until you've check levels, cam chain ten, clutch basket, gen/fly wheel, the basics before you dig deeper as the others have said....you can call me anytime if I'm not on here, happy to help for free mate..
mine definately got worse under revs, ive never driven home so slow in my life...I know mine cost about £40 and was fitted in minutes, not sure if it differs much on your model but gotta be worth a investigate. still keepin fingers crossed
Cheers zipster, I really hope it's something cheap, looks like I will be chucking some cash Arthur's way when I have some
Hope it all works out for the best Mart, and full marks for everyone rallying round top forum, top effort, now wheres my hanky
Sorry to hear it Martin Mechanics not really my strong point, but if its any conciliation ill have a steaming mug of tea waiting for you at Loomies when your mobile again! Ill keep an ear out for an engine locally if all fails, but sounds as if you got a good chance there could still be hope
just done a quick scan on you tube and most seem to be the cam chain tensioner from what you say gets faster when you open the throttle, cant see it being oil related no leaks spotted etc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6B6MAvKYvFA
Martin drop the oil out sump then fillter it check for any nasty bits? An how much oil is in the bike! The oil pump will bring it up to top of the engine no matter what, Plus if the oil was very low your top end should be ok, your bike has oil pump chain that runs off the clutch so its always pumping oil around the engine. Clutch wheel might have rattle loose! Or the cam chain ten is worn! Or water pump! Ive have my engine out few Times its easy! But i dont think you have to go that far mate! Just check how much oil come out! Then transfer in to 2li bottle
I would get the fairings off it if its top right this Is cam chain tensioner area but noises could seem to come from everywhere if your CCT has given up it could be your chain is just really slack so slapping around harder you rev the more it slaps
Cheers again everyone, I will get the farings off on tues, drain oil and inspect further. Will let you know my findings (hopefully with a smile on my face)
