Gutted for you mate , hope its something cheap and simple. Brilliant to read all those offers of help , good to know if you do have a problem there's someone to lend a hand.
Ouch what a crap start to your summer. Hope you get back up and running soon without too much pain in the back pocket
So today I had a mate with an RR7 he said I need you to ride my bike as I think the gear box is shot? Oh right I say ok then what's the deal, he said when you pull away it makes a clunking sound in first and second.. off I go out for a ride... nope nothing, other than my boot tapped the shift peddle a couple of times and jabbed the quick shifter causing the bike to stall for a sec... anyway gets back checks it over again no sign of any problems, sit on the bike I say and ride round the car park area, I walk along side and sure enough clunk, clunk, clunk, I look down and his chain with him on the bike (largish chap) is tight as a drum! Slacken it off quick spray with oil, fixed... some things are just soooo simple but you fear the worse! Cost = £0.00
Missed this post Dave, unfortunately prob more of a knock from mine and kind of deeper sound But maybe I will be lucky
Hope its a quick n easy fix for you mate.Probably tensioner as already said.Cam chains do give a rattle like its the little ends have gone.Fingers crossed.
Sounds a bit like when I had to wait with a mate at loomies for a good hour after every bike left waiting for the AA as his Ducati cut out every time it was but in gear! Hear feared a massive bill. He turned as red as the Ducati when we realised he had the stand down.
PM MasterBlader.............he,s got a spare 04/5 engine ............or he might be able to give you some pointers. If you were closer I,d say drop it off and I,ll strip it.
sorry to hear about it, hopefully its just the camchain tensioner mate and cheap fix for you, what a great bunch of kind hearted lads on here willing to help out, just shows what a great forum this is!
Thanks again people, this forum is full of kind and helpful people, I can believe the amount of help and advice I have recieved on this one thread alone, I hope I can return the favour to you lot some way one day
Would the sound be slightly different, with yours not having much oil in there? Suppose it just a case of wait and see, fingers crossed dude
hope all gets sorted soon buddy. the amount of help offered here is great and likewise if i wasnt tucked down here i,d be happy to muck in too. good luck
There's not that many people this way unfortunately if your not careful i will be hiring a van and driving up north and knocking on your doors with a sad puppy look lol
I would happily offer my services Martin, but I don't think you'd want me near your pride & joy. Monkey with a machine gun comes to mind
if its any help to you I will gladly come down and pick your bike up and drop it round my mechanics place, (free of charge of course.. he can do what ever needs doing on his days off, wont cost no where near the amount if you took it to a shop. May take a couple of weeks as he would just work on it on his days off but the offer is there..
How good is this place??!!!! fantastic bunch of people. Martin, a big hobby of mine used to be rebuilding engines, but a bike I will not touch as if I fuck it up, the odds on it would be an accident waiting to happen, I don't even do my own. The offers of help from these guys is fantastic. Even though you have skinny legs, it still is fantastic.
