I'm shocked on the support ken and it gives me hope that I may actually get this back on the road I'm not even as tempted to go kick her over now
Have known the CCT spring to collapse causing an extreme racket from the cam chain. This unit can be removed to be checked before you fear the worst.
I'll put my money on the CCT. Honda CCts are notorious for failure, and most Honda bikes run the similar design. The tension spring is helically wound and it can just break allowing the tensioner to back off, On the VTR 1000, if one goes the cam chain jumps teeth and the pistons hit the valves and the motor is trashed, I know of several engines destroyed this way. The VFR uses the same tensioner and also the blackbird, they all do it. I would just replace it anyway, and as a service item at about 50,000 kms. or if the slightest rattle is detected. Good luck with it
A monkey with a machine gun, you say... That sounds like an excuse to repost this.... Hoax or no, it never gets old...
Martin it would appear you should be optimistic about your bike.... The "A team" are on it..... i can almost hear the music now. Kpone haven't you got some work to do....????? LOL.
I put money on the CCT, you say that it runs can you take a quick video or sound recording of it? Would help no end for sure.
A big thanks to Arthur for your phone call today, I will most prob investergate the problem fri afternoon, today I know I would of ended up just kicking it over
I've not had such a big mechanical trauma as this but know that often taking a step back - a bit time to gain information (as you have) and then taking a fresh look when time allows in a methodical manner can pay dividends. You have had plenty of offers of help - is it worth asking is somebody could visit over the weekend to give a 2nd opinion or just help in the diagnosis?
Arthur has kindly said he will try and pop in at some point when he is free, I have a friend coming to help me strip it down a bit on the weekend he has a small amount of knowledge not loads but between us we should be able to at least get enough pannels off etc for a propper investergation of someone with more knowledge
Hi Martin sorry to hear what's happened mate!!!! I'm gutted for you!! Did your battery have plenty of juice in it when your fired her up? The reason I ask is that if there's not enough charge in the battery that can cause damage to the sprag clutch on start up especially in large capacity in-line fours! I just thought I'd mention it! It's another to get check mate! I hope it nothing to bad Martin good luck mate
It's a brand new battery but.........I was running a knackered one for prob 2 years! Could I have damaged it with that battery??
Wow... I missed this thread.... Crappy news Martin, but a fantastic response from folk !! I'm no good at mechanics but I can make a mean cuppa, need some moral support just shout out - i'm only down the road... Hope you have some great luck & news soon buddy.... keep smiling !
definately rip out that tensioner though mate, replace that first. Just feel it in my water (no not an infection!!) whack a new one in, not gonna hurt if its not and a nice cheap fix if it is that!
