if you had plenty of oil in there then unless you had oil pump problems the crank side of things should be fine. i would really pop of the valve cover and have a looky around. cam, chain and or/tensioner, tensioner blades is most probable!
Just read through this whole thread, what an overwhelming show of support! With this kind of help and good feeling behind you mate, I'm sure you'll be sorted in no time!!
The sound was hard to locate to 1 area but with the screw driver trick maybe more from top end, so I'm thinking cam chain tensioner maybe but doesn't sound like when my gixer went
Well it defo could be the CCT as the others have said from the start! The noise will be the guide slopping around if the CCT is stuck in! Id not start it again without checking it as it could jump a tooth or jam up...then you will be in deep dodo!
Martin its not your oil pump! :your oil pump runs the water pump off clutch! So if your oil pump not working your oil light be on & bike would over heat in minutes! Its CCT or the Clutch basket niddle bearings! Take the case of (right side) and put kill switch on off. An turn bike over see what the CCT is doing or the basket? Plus look in to the sump an you can see oil pump chain
OK you can test if a cct spring is broken or not by removing the 10mm bolt on the end of it and inserting a small flat screwdriver with a 2.5-3.0mm blade into the hole and engage the slot in the end of the rotating shaft. Try to rotate the shaft (try both directions, i'm not sure from memory which way) but in one direction should be solid resistance and in the other direction you should feel the tension from the spring, that's if it isn't broken. Access may be the only problem on the blade, you may need a very short screwdriver, I dont know, but this method works for every other Honda I've had. In any case you can remove the cct and do this test. be aware if you remove the cct and the spring is intact it will fully extend due to the spring tension and you will have to retract it using the method above and hold it retracted to refit it to the engine. When you buy a new cct it comes retracted with a special tool fitted that you remove after installation, its just a piece of sheetmetal to engage the screw and hold hold the shaft retracted. For many hondas you can buy manual adjust ccts (aftermarket) to do away with the uncertainty of the spring breaking but the downside is you have to maintain the tension regularly and there is the danger that someone could overtension it causing greater problems.
I have had a look and access to the CCT seems to be awkward especially for my shovel hands so I think it will be safer/cheaper in the long run to now pay someone to finish it from here
Really is amazing reading through all the offers of help on here. I'm not too far away and did a cctl on my cbr600f - i have no where near the skill of some of the guys on here but if I can help at all then happy to try. From the video.....what exhaust have you got? Tried to find a post about it but couldn't
I had the same problem but just got this one 2nd hand off here, I had a scorpion on before which has a very nice sound! I will be selling one or the other soon I just need to see which I prefer as all these issues occurred a couple of minutes into my test ride lol
I also believe that it's customary in Basingstoke to get out of the bath for a widdle, isn't it Martin?
