Great idea Colin and it once again shows the true nature of this forum, god I feel so proud now I could burst
Hey guys!!! What can I say? Its such a wonderful gesture, I really am touched ( there's an invitation Ken...). Makes me feel all warm inside. I really am very proud to think of everyone on here as mates, even tho most of us have never met. Just shows what the biking community, especially this forum, is all about. Right, thats the soft bit done. Been to see specialist this morning. One of my fractures to lower back is only a crack really, the other is a 'stable fracture', but he's still saying 4 to 6 week with another x ray in 5 week. Well, sod that. Daytime tv is doing my head in. plus, as a self employed type, I really need to get back to work and make some bike build cash.
I doubt it mate, more the voice of experience. You're gonna find over the next few weeks that hiccups, sneezing even particularly difficult bowel movements will introduce you to a whole new world of endorphin overdose. And forget bloke farting for a while.
update. Back to hospital this evening to see the specialist about my back. Got a bollocking cos it's slightly worse due to me doing a few days work, but I am self employed and spent any savings I had on buying the blade, so HAVE to work to pay the bills. Anyway, my right ankle with a chipped ankle bone (no faster than an un chipped one) isn't actually sprained. It's fookin busted. Twats. Refused a pot due to the fact I been hobbling on it since the 'off' anyhow, so what is the point? Would only hamper my work. As for the left foot (4 busted toes) I straightened the 2nd and 3rd toes while on the trolley in the hospital at the time, so they will be ok in time. Not getting much better, but only to be expected since I have to work. Got a new credit card through today though so I fully expect another week /give or take a day or 2, I should be able to drag the bike out of the shed, strip it down, and if the frame isn't bent i'll get ordering some bits. I want to be back on the road by the end of April. Pics will be posted.
"faster than an unchipped one..." Yeah I get it... Blags, mate. Your enthusiasm does you great credit but please be careful. I had a nasty accident 13 years ago and thanks to a self important consultant insisting on getting his own way infront of the arguments from the fracture clinic staff, my leg got fully plastered while it was still badly swollen and consequently, the swelling receded inside the cast allowing the leg to rotate around the break. It only took a fortnight but it was enough for it to set out of line and I had to have it re broken. It's still not right now, so I doubt it ever will be. Please don't let your enthusiasm make you write cheques your body'll have problems cashing later on mate. Especially cracked vertebrae.
Thanks for the concern Ken, and for the short anecdote which just reinforces my opinion on hospitals/doctors/so called specialists.....they know fcuk all. I have no confidence in them whatsoever when it comes to 'small stuff' like busted bones etc. on the flip side though, life saving ops etc I think they do a truly fantastic job. I'm a great believer in getting on with it and when it hurts 'too' much, your own body will tell you. Could be wrong but it's how I always carry on. Don't like cold n damp though, 20 odd broken bones all grumbling at once! And i'm 'only' 44. Lol. I won't complain though, I think Tucker came off a damn sight worse.
+1 what Ken said, We all think for today with no regard for the future, I hurt my hip, shoulder and tore all the ligaments on my ankle, and was told to elevate, rest it and not put any weight on it for 4 weeks. Decided I knew better and attempted to make an important meeting using taxis and the train only for some dick head to knock me off the crutches which broke the same ankle and my wrist. Years on it still aches and is not strong enough for playing squash, which I used to love and was quite good at. So, think on, don’t be a hero and give your self time to heal. Not a biking accident, I was carrying my son when he was a baby and tripped at the top a staircase and in an attempt to save him turned by body mid air ninja style and landed at the bottom with my foot the wrong way round. My lad was totally unhurt, so that was the main thing
Some reflex action that. As a non parent, and as such perhaps lacking in certain...emotional... prerogatives, I'm pretty certain that on the way down I'd have explored the concept, albeit briefly, of the value of an infant as an airbag. But I'm not certain that this does me that much credit.
I think less of him, but I didn't think to much of him in the first place, so no real loss Also I look at the children as spares, if i ever need a kidney etc there always there also they are excellent for fetching things from around the house and shouting at when your feeling grumpy...... but using them as a barrier in a fall that's just wrong !
Well you know what they say: The difference between a truck full of sand and a truck full of children is you can't unload sand with a pitchfork.
