Due to my weight and the spring settings it was always gonna be a compromise but it feels good. To me anyway.
It's simply way too stiff and rebound is too slow ... Not what you want for the .UK roads. Sag should be around 35mm front and rear, with the shock on notch 7 I'm only seeing 27mm and importantly that's raised the ride height quite a bit. That's with me being 90kg. The main issue is lack of rebound ... You want the bike to rebound as fast as possible on the road to avoid the suspension packing up over bumps without causing oscillation. So those rebound screws need opening further not closing. So I've gone back to standard setup, set the sag to 35mm front and rear which incidentally is notch 5 on rear shock, 9 turns from out on forks ... Then will be playing with the compression. Rebound is set to 2 1/4 turns from fully in.
2 1/4 rebound front and rear saw the rear coming back up way too slow on mine. It needed at least another turn on mine to see it reacting like the front. I guess it's a personal thing eh. I may revisit the preload once more tho in full leathers before I'm done although I quite like the firm settings it now has. It gives me more confidence to push on.
I'll take a look when I'm home as the last time I was playing it definitely came back quicker to match the front. Maybe I adjusted it the other way. Although when I dialled Dave settings I never checked, I just took it out and rode it. I'll go and see Ross at Moto-pro next week and get him to dial it in, it's only £25.
Think about it ... The valves control oil flow ... So stiffening the rebound (clockwise) makes the oil flow slower which makes the bike rebound slower... You are actually affecting the speed of the flow. I've read and digested too much information on this subject lol
Yeah, I need to warm the suspension up before I do anymore and I'm not 100% on compression settings but all takes time. I'm after a bike that has good control on the UK roads with occasional track work.
I feel like someone has given me one o them placebo things cos I took it out and shook it by the scruff and rode it to the edge of the tyres.
Ironically the setup I had done by KAIS is pretty close to what I'm running now after messing about with the suspension lol
KAIS settings Front preload - 7 1/4 turns from fully out Front comp - 3 turns from fully in Front rebound - 1 3/4 turns from fully in Rear preload - standard (4) Rear comp - 2 1/2 turns from fully in Rear rebound - 2 1/4 turns from fully in Bike feels balanced and compliant.
Well, had a further play with this today and got my BIL to help with the measurements. I dropped the rear preload to 6 following the advice here and dropped my front preload to 10 turns and in my gear it measured 35mm front and rear. Rebound and compression were messed around with and put in the same ballpark as @Mr OCD and @sps170373 (cheers guys although this is still not finalised) and while the rebound is deffo quicker and comes back at roughly the same speed as the front, I think it may need stiffening by a quarter turn as I am getting a little pattering on my arse! More playing tomorrow I think.
