I do my own too using the gizmo in a previous post; nice & easy. I will say though that on the odd occasion & havn't done it, I couldn't tell. I also make sure the dot on the tyre is in line with the valve when fitting (or is it opposite, I always forget & have to check).
There are arguments against and for, I always do as its done at pro tyre normally free, however when this happens who cares lol still that was june the only good week i think we had ....
Hi Phantom, I was on the M5 heading north around junction 13, I Had only had the 2CTs on a week, I changed from outside lane to centre lane when i felt a wobble on the back, ?(didnt feel it at 100+) as i slowed it got worse, so pulled over to find the tyre had been punctured, not sure how as i could only find the puncture once i had over inflated, I managed to get green flag to use a plug so i could get to my destination, then couldnt find a dealer that could fit a 2CT ? so I took the risk and rode 350 miles back home with the plug in! I think that was the last day I saw the sun too lol!
There is no argument, it's round, it spins, it should be balanced. NO tyre manufactures says not to balance them front or rear. As for feeling no change from balanced to not balanced is not the point you wuld not detect vibrations if small with all the other factors going on with high speed motorcycling, if its not balanced you will have uneven tyre ware and so on. Static balancers are used by all major race teams right up to MGP, no one uses electronic (dynamic) wheel balancers in racing as they need constant calibration! Ask your fitter with his fancy dynamic machine when he last had it calibrated? As said line up the balance assist markers with your valve when fitting the tyre. Rebalance the tyre when removed or plugged. Jobs a good un. p.s watch those bling 8 ball valve caps they lean back when spinning and split your rubber tyre valves causing rapid deflation of your tyre at speed..
I would have patched it and rode on until the tyre was done. sods law getting a flat, always seems to happen me with new tyres, seem to be riding with patched tyres all the time lol.
Me to got 2 new tyres went out to bed them in, an found a nail in back tyre when i got home! gutted ive had it fix and got continental inner tube G17 put in to be on the safe side
I have an MOT due though so surley the fact I have a plug in would ensure a fail? any ideas? The plug is still in and the tyre has less than 1000 miles on it! arrrrrrrrrrrrrr I didn't think "R" rated tyres would pass a test with a plug in ?
Tyre manufactures have guidlines for plugging tyres they are hard to find but if you look you may be lucky and find the rules for your make and model tyre, I'd just take it, say nothing and see.... check online for MOT goverment directives for reason to fail tyres, if the tyre is 1mm tread and e marked no tears or age cracks etc then no reason to fail it, unless they want to sell you a tyre that is....lol he will have to look hard to see the plug anyhow!
I was just thinking of putting the bike in and seeing what they say (if spotted) lol, Im not a cheap skate either but I want to get the wear out of the tyres, this is my first set of 2CTs and im not that impressed, SO if they say it has to be changed I might try something different, and cheers for the advice!
Do that just put it in say nothing.... 2CT should be a good tyre tbh, I run power pure all year or PilotRoad3 if your out in the propper shite.
Or flip it through the box on the spot and watch that baby BURN!...........lol well worth 100odd quid.....lol
I use the plugs that have the pach on he back.they wont pop out no matter how hot it gets. I too use the pures.tbh I think them and the power 2ct's are the best tyres I have used, I feel like there is more feedback from the front end and they work really well in the wet.
I bought my bike for bill Smith and never new it was in the tyre, was about 1cm round it was in tyre when moble tyer fitter came out an put new tyer on!
Do I need to balance my wheel/tire? All motorcycle tires/wheels should be balanced after a new tire is installed. Motorcycle Wheel Balancer - webBikeWorld Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Us - www.allmotorcycletirereviews.com
