I sat on my bike on my drive when I got home and let it idle for a few minutes with my eye on the rpm. It was still idling when my next door neighbour waddled round to tell me her windows were rattling and she couldn't stand it.
Do the right neighbourly thing and trot around to her with this link: https://www.safestyle-windows.co.uk/
I'm still having trouble with the idle on my bike. I took it to a main dealer a couple of days ago and they had no idea what was going on. Here's a video that illustrates the problem if anyone can bear to watch a bike idling for 5 minutes. From about 1:10 is a good place to start. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Clearly something out as it seems to stabilise somewhat as it reaches operating temperature. I'm no help though when this is all about electronics and not 'mechanics'. You'll probably agree there is some sort of fuelling issue and in the old days we'd probably say it was running too rich at first. Totally unsatisfactory that a main dealer could not resolve it. These bikes are supposed to be a plug in and diagnose situation. Sad to hear these stories of owners of ten grand-plus bikes being told, 'We can't find a problem.'
If I leave it to idle without touching the thottle it settles down to around 1350. When it is fully warm it tends to idle around 1650 after being ridden. Can anyone recommend a dealer or other mechanic that might be able to sort it? I'm based in Northamptonshire but I don't mind travelling for a solution.
Depending upon which part of Northamptonshire, I highly recommend Blade Honda in Stratford. I've purchased 3 bikes there and will only entrust my good bikes to Darren and Clive, both long-term Honda gurus. Don't mind you dropping my name - and before the wise guys latch on to this, they won't say: Nigel who? https://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/dealers/STR100.html
I am positive the more electronics they throw at bikes the less reliability. Remember 20 years ago when all Jap bikes especially Honda were renown for their ‘bullet proof’ reliability. As much as would love a new blade my 2012 non-abs is still ticking all the boxes.
Nearly £20k Having said that, I went on a run easter Sunday to Keilder and I never really noticed the hunting issue.
I prefer to see the bar graph rev counter, because on tick over the revs always fluctuate TBH yours doesn't come across as being too bad. Don't sweat the small stuff
I would be looking at the TPS sensor and testing it as it may be at fault. Need access to the throttle bodies to test it with a multimeter.
When it was in for a service the diagnostic check reported a TPS fault but the Honda dealer couldn't see anything. From what I've read I suspect there might be a problem there.
Reinforces my position that the dealership (or technician) is not worthy of working on these bikes. The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is an essential component of the ride-by-wire system and as such should be easily identified/adjusted through diagnostic loom plugged to the ECU.
