Looks like the previous owner had a fall and broken it, the seller told it might be due to overtightening the bobbin. As its already broken and hanging , i tried to remove and it came off or might be due to my popeye biceps
Finally got hold of a good looking swingarm and should be delivered today. Decided to fix it myself . How difficult is changing the swingarm, any special tools needed. While doing this, is it worth to do any other jobs, obviously good chain and sprocket cleaning, look for coolant levels, brake pads etc etc...
Never done it but I’d imagine the biggest issue is supporting the bike as all the stands either pick up on the swing arm or its pivot point - or am I wrong (again )
I think you will need to split / rejoin the chain if replacing swinging arm. It would be worth replacing chain & sprockets at the same time if they are worn. Cheers, Ian
I don't think the chain needs splitting. Just make sure you put the chain in before fitting the swing arm pivot!
Never removed the swingarm myself, but the chain goes through the swingarm so will have to be split. The swingarm bolt looks like 27mm with the nut on the other side is 32mm. Also check the bearings in the suspension while you’re at it, the bottom shocker bearing can dry out and collapse. As mentioned, supporting the bike could be an issue.
Thank you all for the inputs .Found a video on the youtube , might be helpful. Chain goes through the swingarm and needs splitting. I have a warrior lift stand for support and should be fine in replacing the swingarm. Also i need to procure proper tools to do chain splitting and my 150 piece halford kit hasn't got all the things needed.
If your chain is still good split at the riveted link and replace just the link. If not, replace chain and sprockets. I use this tool: AFAM Motorcycle Bike Drive Chain Riveting Press Tool for DID, D.I.D, RK, CZ & JT (Auction Site Arr No. 223017153548) as its easy to use and always gets the riveting correct. Hope it goes well for ya
