Just a suggestion, but I was amazed at the R6 on track and don't think I would go for a Blade or a thou on the track again. Go for an R6, CBR6 or ZX6. The handling is sublime and you will probably be quicker than a bigger bike.
Update: if any of you are plannin to do a trackday prepare to have achey legs next day... daaaaamn i can hardly walk lol
Thanks for sharing that YT. I have never done a bike track day but have done a couple in cars so can relate to your enthusiasm. I was also glad to read that you called it a day when you realised that tiredness and lack of concentration started to kick in, a very wise move.
The obsession begins.... Great day mate isn't it, and a brilliant write up!! Really enjoyed reading it. Good move getting a track bike, but be prepared you then start opening up a whole new can of worms in terms of cash!! Lol And as said, I'd look for an r6, my 08 was class on track, plenty about now as they are still the most popular 600 amongst the race boys. Maybe not at the sharp end now with the 675r etc being updated, but will mean a few are selling to upgrade theirs??
Yeah gonna look at a sports 600 for deffo. Probs not gonna get anything too flash just a mechanically sound bike that rides well and buy some cheap track fairings. I wanna be able to ride more towards 85-90% as i kept it at about 70% yesterday to look after the blade.
I just picked up a ex Mss Kawasaki ZX6RR with ktec 25mm forks, revalved rear shock, PC3 and exhaust for £1800 top condition for a 2003 bike.. Remember to budget for tyres, paddock stand, tyre warmers, trailer/tow bar/van, track day booking, generator all becomes expensive. I see myself doing one a month but its cheap insurance as I will eventually bin my Blade as I quickly found like you Novices was a no go and straight into Inters on second session. My budget was 3k and I still have change
My dad has a trailer so should be sorted there, for the time being I'm happy doing two warm up laps so don't need warmers and a genny. Just the bike and tyres for now i think
These seem to get good reviews, although I'd prefer a Van myself so you cab cart all ya gear as well. Bike Racks & Trailers Supplier UK - Dave Cooper
With tyres, save yourself a load and buy scrubs from ebay or normally at track days they have a tyre guy, who normally has scrubs for sale.
