I now have moved on to the 2022 Anniversary Blade. OMG, mid-range is unbelievable and the gearing is spot-on, well-done Honda for listening to customer feedback.
Still liked the 2020 Blade but this is much improved.
Did you buy it in the end?

Picture for attention again. ;) OP Blade.jpg

I haven't changed it yet. It turns out some old recall work hasn't been done so it is booked in for that next Saturday, which is the day the 2 year warranty expires. I'll start making changes after that.

It would be nice to try a 2020 with 16/43 final gearing alongside a 2022 to see if the changes to enhance the midrange are significant. I believe they could be retrofitted to the 2020. It is certainly possible to get revised velocity stacks.

Change the settings in the dash, I use medium and have had no problems.

I know what you mean about the difference between below 6000rpm and above. The contrast does make hitting the power band more exciting. I get a little frustrated when in traffic and go to overtake though. It takes more preparation than I'm used to, you often have to drop 1 or 2 gears so you can get past quickly. I changed my sprockets at the weekend to 15/42. I've done a quick test and it is definitely more responsive. No issues with the traction control but I did have a couple of missed shifts on the quickshifter, so I'll keep an eye on that.

Second ride with the new gearing this evening. The bike is definitely more responsive, the gearing is much more suitable for the road than the stock 16/40. I found overtaking in 3rd or even 4th was acceptable, so 1 or 2 gears higher than before. The flat spot just before the exhaust valve opens is still there, but not quite as noticeable. I'm hoping a new end can with no valve and an ecu remap will sort that out (Woolich get a move on please!). The quickshifter behaved itself but the shift between 2 and 3 seemed a bit clunky when you're pressing on a bit. No problems with the autoblipper but I don't always use it anyway.

With regards to the accuracy of the speedo, I did a rough check by noting the speed, rpm and gear. So, 60mph was 5000rpm in 4th. According to GearingCommander, the gps speed would be 56.6mph at that rpm in 4th with the new gearing, so 60mph is close enough for me. I'll do some more checks when I get a phone mount.

thanks for the good info guys,so i take it YOU can not re program the QS yourself,i had it set to med,ill try it on both hard and soft, and see if it works or not, otherwise its a trip to the dealers

Dash setting are all you can do. Other thing I'd check are chain tension (Not too tight) and that the gear linkage is secure.
