This is the state of a supersprox after 18k and a Renthal HA after 10k Both have been treated with the same maintenance regime and subjected to a few track days and commute. I've compare to a new sprocket and both have next to zero wear. Both aligned to OCD tolerances using laser! I ran a Tsubaki with the supersprox and atfer 18k the difference between the slack and tightest point became unacceptable I ran a vx with the Renthal and after 10k the x-rings rotted and fell out! Luckily have the vx replaced at a discount price. FYI The original OEM lasted 12 k Tsubaki was a bomb proof chain but pricey and harder to fit due to solid rivet DID VX cheap and easy to fit but the x-ring longevity questionable HTH
Very helpful chap. Thanks. I've run both the supersprox and renthal on previous sports bikes ... Like you got more mileage from the supersprox but they are substantially heavier so expected ... I think realistically expecting anything more than 15-20k from sprockets is a little optimistic so a bit pointless buying a higher end chain that will do 20k plus ... My bike is on the OE chain and sprockets and has done 17k now ... I'm half tempted just to stick with the OE chain and sprockets.
Got mine from http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/buy/T...-Ring-Gold-CBR1000RR-08-14/530SGX-116.9DE#eq1, if you're staying oem then the sigma116 link 530 is the one you need. Note it has a solid joint rivet so cheapo chain riveters will struggle. you might be able to find a hollow rivet which will make it easier Ended up using the 2 hammer method, As I said mine lasted over 18k.
Got my OEM final drive set cheaper from wheels at Grimsby, than I'd have got a renthal/tsubaki set from B&C. The helpful woman at B&C did say to beware with various makes of chain as the spec varies slightly with each model and dictates the rivet link more than anything. Reckoned that DID were sods for bringing a new chain out every couple of years.. Beauty of the OEM kit is you retain the front sprocket with the rubber damper, reduces the shock loading through the output shaft on the gearbox.. and maintains longevity..
Im always on ebay looking for oem front sprockets. Generally pick up a OEM front sprocket with zero miles( ie off a track conversion) for less than £20. If one is not available the only other alternative with a rubber damper is the Ognibene, goes for about £24. I don't use fronts sprockets without the rubber damper I paid nearly Supersprox/tsubaki/oem = £190 (current price probs £175) this lasted 18k My current combo : Oem front, DID VX and Renthal rear cost about £115 ( got the VX on discount current price probs 135) if this lasts 15k I'll be happy for me it's a balance of price, looks and miles
Same here. Front sprocket will be OE or similar with damper. Chain: EK ZVM-ZST Rear sprocket: undecided
Just as an update. Went for Tsubaki gold chain, Supersprox rear and Renthal front sprockets. Thanks for your help.
An old thread I know, but I've just invested in the same kit for mine. Current chain is OE one with 16k behind it, and hasn't been looked after by the previous owners. Rusty and horrible looking rear sprocket and chain. This should do the trick.
