for track side I used to take my little wheel holder (basically 2 large hoops joined together)im sure you've seen them.they doa decent enough job and don't take up much room.

these days I'm far too organised and make sure I don't need tyres changing trackside,i've paid for 1 tyre change in the last 5 yrs,and it upset me.

I thought discs used stretch bolts that arent strictly meant to be reused alot of times?!

I think its handy DIY'ing it but a bit outset to do it. Hard to beat getting it done for you even if it costs a bit more, usually get a good bit of discount if you use the same people over and over

save a bit??? my set up cost me 200-250,inc balancer etc.

i have 2 track bikes and a road bike, since doing my own tyres (about 6 yrs) i reckon i've saved around 3k.

plus the time/money saved having to go get them changed,or the fucking about whilst at track.

    3k? Really? £7.50 a change..... That's 400 tyre changes? 66 a year or more than 1 a week? That's some tyre eating....

Granted, it's the grief, and I intend on going DIY too but just as its a ball ache.... But sometime i think I just couldn't be arsed!

You are joking? I wouldn't even pay more than 30 for ride in ride out? Loose wheel at track are cheap as... Parkitt charged me 15 quid to bang some scrubs on the other day??

They don't do a bad job IMO. Not the best but will get it working well.

As for tyre changes, those prices are mental mate. Seriously. You've been unlucky there.

£25 is the norm at trackdays, not sure why parkitt are charging 15 as it's them that set it at 25 on the NL days?

so track bike.approx 20 t/days a yr,set of tyres lasts me 2 day.so 10 changes on that bike 250x6= £1500,thats without swapping different tyres for the odd day, trying different tyres etc.so can add another 5/yr to that £750.

then theres my other track bike (not been used for 3 yrs mind),my ex g/f's bike, track and road bikes and ,my road bike.

it all adds up :) so 3k is a minimum.

but i'm one of those chaps that would much prefer to do all my own maintenance, servicing and fixing,so at least if it gets damaged or goes wrong i know who's fault it is.

Paid £12.50 last Week at Oulton to have new scrub fitted to my loose rear wheel so £25/set seems the going rate

Don't worry, i've already loaded up my tyre changing gear. I hope they're good at suspension though?

Do Dunlop and Martin ring any bells? ;)

Perhaps they charge less at race meets? 25 doesn't seem to bad but (sure I've also paid that) but 35/45 is ludicrous....

As for your estimation scooby, still think that's a little cooked, at 12.50 a wheel that's 40 tyres a season? Ave of a set a day on your calcs..... I didn't even use that racing on stock suspension.

But like you say, can't put a price on doing it yourself at your own convenience :)

think all you want,i never buy new tyres apart from euro trips,i buy decent scrubs, last me 2 days, then either stick em' on the road bike or sell them on.

if yu read what I posted,it's not just me that has bikes in the household.

but if your happy to crack on chucking money away who am I to argue :)

haha,if only I had 1/2 the bollocks of them.but I am big believer in doing what you can yourself, you'd be surprised how much you learn, from setting a bike up,to what little differences/changes do to a bike
