I did read it quite clearly mate! But don't agree you do on average a set a day... And away from track you'll swap even less. And try practicing what you preach and read what I said! I think DIY is the best way to go. Why I intend on doing it. And who said I throw my money away? As for scrubs, again, false economy IMO.... I could sell you a set of scrubs which look ok, (I'd have bought them a while back) but they are fucked, nothing compared to fresh rubber. IMO scrubs are well over used than stated on well set up bikes. My rear at brands had half a test day, two qualy and three races on and still got 2mm tread on. You'd kill a scrub off in less than half that time.... Seen tyres like this fetch stupid money on eBay! Yeah course it's only done two sessions lol
One of my mates was stitched up 50 for loose slicks to wets at a TD a few weeks back, I charge 20 a pair loose wheel fit and bal, 45 RIRO, local bike shop charges 75 plus VAT RIRO, main tyre place in mitcheldever charges 45 IF you buy the tyres from them, they don't fit ANY used tyres and want proof of purchase of any new tyre not supplied by them, MOST dealer also have shocking fitting costs. It's a very mixed bag fitting prices! If your saving 2grand over time you may as well buy a full fat tyre machiene ? I love my m500!
I can feel an 'end of year' Forum Track Day coming on! With No Limits we have a choice of the following 6th, 13th & 26th August 10th September 1st & 15th October Any takers??
well then you'd have read that I also had 2 other bikes,so 3 track bikes and 2 road bikes between 2 of us.tbh don't give a shit if you think I'm "fudging" my estimate,i know what I know. mow then ,as for scrubs.;do have any idea where I get my scrubs from? no didn't think so,well I do.i don't buy off ebay,or some bloke that reckons they only did 2 practice laps,i buy from a very good friend that,so I know exactly what they have done, they cost me 50 quid a set,now if you think me getting 2 days out of a 50 quid pair of tyres is false economy, then I'm glad you don't look after my investments that's all I can say. yep fresh rubber is better, but at 250-300 a set, that last 3-4 days and as I don't need to chase those elusive tenths of a second I'm quite happy to use my perfectly good scrubs.
I did read that yes, and of course of do twenty track days a year on them too. Mate, I couldn't care if you spend 10k a yeah on tyre changes, but based on what you said I think you slightly over estimated your saving, that's all, an opinion... But of course you know every fucking thing about track riding you couldn't possibly be wrong... Could you! As for chasing tenths, I wish I done a track that regular I was doing the same
yeah I agree, Snetterton on Monday is about as early as i want to get so Cadwell park or Donington would be better, although Oulton Park is one place I'd love to try, but its a camp overnight job I reckon?
no, i dont know everything about track riding far from it in fact, which i why i use the money saved on tyre changes for personnal tuition ,but what i do know,is how many times (to a degree) i change my tyres,no idea why your making such a big fuss about something, and someone you've never met,so have no idea about. i'll tell you what,if it makes you happy. i dont know the exact figure of how much money i've saved over the years changing my own tyres, but i know it's somewhere between £100 and £10,000.
Would love to get back to Donny even though it's got bad memory's for me as that's where my blade "Died" I would say Donny is pretty central for most of us so J as you suggested it reckon you take control of organising it
Not making a big fuss mate, I just questioned something you said as I thought it was a little high, to be told I can't read in what I feel was a patronising arrogant tone! Something you seem to find easy doing when talking about track days.....
Fight fight fight I will be getting all the stuff I need to change my own tyres and balance them too, seems crazy not to Will be nice to buy tyres online and not have to take to garage or wait for mobile fitter It's bound to save loads over years too
Years ago I used to use a block of wood, large hammer, two tyre levers. No ball required as they never lasted long enough to worry, besides back then we did not give a sh@t if it had vibes, as long as it went, did burnouts and pulled wheelies she was good to go.
I'm up for an end of season track day- Won't need to worry about changing tyres, plenty of life left in the PR4's
