Must be the season for new seats, I couldn't resist a dabble on this Ebay bargain either. Im real pleased with it, and I love the material its made from...right amount of grip imo.
Funny how this thread started out as a rant at bastard customs and we've all swung it round to showing off our new seats
obviously people don't understand how the customs charges work,it's nothing to do with the value of the item (well it is,but the amount of tax differs). basically every product has it's own commodity code, ranging from 0% to 90%.so depending what is put on the export label wil depend on whjat they charge you,if it's un marked then they will stick a basic 10 or 15% import tax on it,then plus VAT@20% and then parcel force stick thier charge on there. there is a list of commodity codes on the .gov website, but it can be quite hard to work out what your item comes under, but it is well worth knowing what code it relates to,as then if you feel you've been over charged, you can contact them, explain what the item is,and give them the reference number for the commodity code, they will then refund you if it all tally's up.
went for a long ride yesterday with the new seat and its a lot more comfy than the standard seat so in all im happy with it its just a shame i couldnt find one that style in uk i did send a few seat places in the uk a pict of the seat to see if they could make me one but they said they couldnt but gave no reason but i think it could be down to copywrighting or something like that
More like lack of vision or skill rather than copyright issues id say dude ! Bet my guy Jimmy could get it sorted !
I buy a fair amount of gear from motomummy.com The bloke in charge deals with the UK quite a bit and if you ask him, will mark down the price to help with our beloved customs (at least Dick Turpin wore a mask).
