In a few years time people will never believe you when you tell them the public had unrestricted access to explosives. Madness. The whole concept of bonfire night and the associated "celebrations" should be phased out asap. I speak as someone that used to put on a small local firework display. It has had its day. However it's no good moaning about it on a Fireblade forum. Write to your MP, or things will never change.
I don't know if any of you know of Ari Henning. He's an excellent journalist for Motorcyclist magazine in the USA. He recently had an incident with a firework ( I don't know how it happened) but it broke his jaw and gave him terrible burns around his neck.
Strange how as people get old they moan about everything, you will be having a dig at loud music and loud exhaust next
Not exactly, but I understand some people's hatred of them. Some of us spent a LOT of years where those same sounds usually meant you were about to kill people or possibly be killed. Plain and simple, it can get in your head. Then you come back to this world and those same sounds can trigger something. I don't expect someone who has never taken a life in those situations to understand that, but trust me on this, it is not an easy thing to have in your head.
Things have changed. When I was a kid (up to about 14 years old) we would go up to a bit of a field that was used for playing football, and general messing about - this has since been built on of course. We would construct a bonfire over a period of couple of weeks and it would be a community thing. People would come from the surrounding area when it was lit. We would have a few fireworks and sparklers. Other communities would do much the same. Others were bigger than ours - and if you wanted to see one of the bigger shows, then go to them. I can even remember kids pushing around a tatty home made guy in a pram and asking for money for the Guy - not so long ago, early 1980's
