Colin's working away on this in the background, but in the meantime, I'm going to carry on posting my thoughts here... My next worry is that the gear side won't work as the adjusters will presumably need to move the pegs out (ie, they get wider apart) - but I don't think the brake lever can be moved sideways to compensate? Or am I missing something
You can use Rose joint bearings on the ends of the rods mate. A lot of bikes come with em standard on gear change rod.
Have a look on the SES ebay site, they are selling these Honda cbr 1000rr old style gear lever road change SES old stock discounted price | eBay give them a call they may be the length you require. I am going there this afternoon to collect my new rearsets, they are not far from me

You may well be right, I could not possibly say whos design it is, yes the connecting rod has left hand and right hand threads. The pattern is a quality piece of kit though,
