    Hi Paul,
Would be happy to catch up when time and weather permits. My engine makes the typical in line 4 sewing machine noise but it is nowhere near as pronounced as the FZ1. It was perfectly normal on the FZ1 and it seems normal on this bike, I certainly don't hear anything that sounds wrong. I put an aftermarket can on the FZ1 and the exhaust note balanced out the engine noise nicely. A new can will probably be the first mod on the Honda, but I am planning to keep her original for the moment.

I am at Mount Osmond and start my rides with the run to the Eagle On The Hill. Might be a good place to catch up...

Hi Pete, Thanks for replying, I made a video of the engine sound, check it out and let me know what you think.

    20120424_121945.mpg - YouTube

I will take it back to the dealer for their workshop to check out tomorrow or Friday, it may be nothing but I want it documented in case there is a warranty claim.
There was a recall on some bikes 09 and 10 in US for a similar issue, rattly crankshaft primary drive gears.

    engine noise

    Hey Paul,

I think that sounds the same as mine. It sounds normal to me when I'm on the bike, but the video seems to make the rattle more noticeable. I just took mine for a run and recorded this afterwards (forgive the side angle):

    Cbr1000rr engine noise - YouTube

My FZ1 (based on the early R1 engine) made a lot more noise than the CBR and it was perfectly normal.

By the way, the recall problem was with the 2007-2010 CBR1000RRA. Mine (and I think yours) is the 2011 CBR1000RRB. There is no noticeable difference whether the clutch is in or out, nor if the engine is loaded, so I don't think it is the problem that the earlier model had.

Perhaps you should start a new thread and ask the guys on the forum.

Thanks Pete, yeah it does sound similar.
Mine says CBR1000RR8 build date 7/11 on the V.I.N plate, but CBR1000RR-RA on the owners manual, so I'm not sure.
