Yep mines stuck on left, is not velcro it's like plastic bristles. Reminds me of a toy I had once think it was called stickabrick.
You can take it on and off as you please and doesn't collect fluff and dirt like Velcro 10/10 from me :D

OMFG sticklebricks lol.... Yeah I think they're the same pads as used with headlight protectors.

The models that have it as standard have it on the left, so left seems logical for an retro fit.

You still go for 7th though but an indicator is also useful to confirm you're in first rather than second after a quick stop at the lights/roundabout etc, knowing you're in first stops ya looking a right Twat on pull off next to the Audi S3 you've just 'had' previously! :p

A simple trick that I have always used with my bikes is to remember the gearing, so a gear indicator is not needed if you are agile with mental arithmetic. On my CBR1000rr8, it is as follows:
    1st 7mph / 1000rpm
    2nd 9mph / 1000rpm
    3rd 11mph / 1000rpm
    4th 13mph / 1000rpm
    5th 14mph / 1000rpm
    6th 15mph / 1000rpm
So, if the speedo says 33 and revs are 3000, then I know I am in 3rd, if the speedo says 45 and the revs are 5000 then I am in 2nd, and if the speedo was to say 180 and the revs were to say 12000, then I'd be in 6th (and on my way to jail if found to be not on a race circuit or autobahn...)

A lot to figure out before you drop 3 and overtake

Yes, Martin and Sinewave, you're both right - my idea is not much use, I guess.
I can do sums really quickly (my boring daytime job), but I can't ride my Fireblade really quickly - just wish that I could !

Have to say though, Martin - if you have to "drop 3 to overtake", then either you're trying too hard on fuel economy whilst waiting for the overtake chances, or you're going for some very skinny gaps...
