The GoPro Hero3 (black) I ordered finally came through the post, but I've not had a chance to make a video with it yet to test it it low light. I liked the idea of the Drift as it's a lower profile and you can rotate the lens so that it doesn't need to be mounted on a 90degree axis. Video quality is a smidge better on the Hero3's, but the time Youtube butchers compresses it you can't tell the difference. The clincher for me was the GoPro app for easier setup and previewing. It comes with the remote, but there's an iPhone/Android app for the GoPro that lets you change all the menu settings, remote control it and stream a live preview of what it sees. GoPro App (the Hero 2 nees the wi-fi backpack, but it's integrated into the Hero3)
Picked 1 up last week also. Took a small video in the car while driving down 1 of my regular routes to the Scottish Borders. As you say though once the likes of YouTube or even photobucket get a hold of it, the image if greatly reduced. I'll need to find a better site to upload the videos to now. I also bought the battery pack for it which doubles the video time you get.
Callum, I think I remember reading on gopro website the App was not functional with the black version yet(gopro3 white n silver only), they were working on it but didnt give a release date for updated app. Regards Shiny
Yes, you're right. The app was updated and released 14th December which was before the official UK launch of the black edition. I can confirm that it works fine and no problems to date.
good because i bought a 3 and am waiting for it, also bought an iphone 5 and thought i'd done a wrongun.

This is my 360' time lapse pan head camera mount - yes its a kitchen timer, it cost £2 to make and it works - only think is at time I wish it turned the other way. Keep meaning to test it over a lunchhour filming the busy tram stop in Manchester City centre
