Well my battery was nearly dead so did not get to read the link.. Turned up with my Halfords socket set...and the biggest was a 32mm... Ended up going home and getting the lift, wheel removed and fork dropped.. Job done.. Thanks all...and Jimbo for sorting out a handle bar to get me out of my sticky situation....
Hey guys, quick question... i did get the bar on but not properly - i need to move it down and put in its correct place then move back up. i undone the nut and the bar does not drop down..is there anyway of getting this to go down little? or do i have to pull the fork down...? just getting fed up of removing the front wheel..
Under the clamp, was there a wire circlip in a groove around the fork leg, there was on my bike that prevented me dropping the triple tree down the forks to alter the rake. You may not have noticed it when changing the clip on. If it's there you will have to raise the headstock up a couple of MM so you can pop it out of the groove and remove it. It's not a very strong circlip.
Yep..I know there is a clip there.. Do you mean the yolk? Or can I push up the handle bar when loose and get this clip off? And once I do..don't think it will go back easily?
Yes the yoke, you may get enough space to get the clip out with the handlebar clamp loose and push it up as far as it will go. As for replacing the clip, I think they are there to be an idiots guide to setting the rake on the front end, I took mine out and used a vernier to get the forks level as I dropped the yokes down the forks beyond the clips. It all depends on what you are intending to do with the bike now you have the new one. But if you can get the clip out of the groove by moving the bar up, the reposition the bar where it needs to be then you should be able to, again lift the bar to replace the clip on the fork leg
