I would agree with what you say about the newer jap bikes, i know my 954 had been kept outside by its previous owner just with a cover over it.... although there was a very small amount of rust, for a 13 year old bike it was amazing. I have now replaced those fastners and covered it in ACF-50 , I will from now on just remove the fairing and ensure its clean.... moisture is a killer though, i have a very small 45w tube heater in my garage, under its over, just supplying gentle heat to the underbelly of the bike, cost nothing and i think will keep the moisture levels low.
