Guys just seen this thread as I've been away living it up in Monte Carlo!! You dont need to use the clutch on the blade to pop up a wheelie, as you do on an older 1000cc or a 600cc bike. Using the clutch is only necessary when the bike hasn't got enough torque to lift the front. The easiest and safest way to learn to wheelie is to attend a wheelie school. If you dont fancy wheelie school, try this technique - sit further back in the seat, this will put more weight over the back of the bike and less over the front wheel making it easier to pick up the front of the bike. To begin with and to get used to the front end lifting up, sit back in the seat and pin the throttle in 1st gear, at around 6,500RPM ish the front wheel will start lifting, at this point gently roll off the throttle until you get enough confidence to keep it wide open. Also make sure you try this on an empty straight road, otherwise you may end up hitting the back end of a car etc. Pulling long wheelies is all about balance, once you find the balance point the bike will just keep wheeling...............!!! On the Blade pin the throttle in 1st until the front picks up and you find the balancing point the change up the 2nd and open the throttle wide enough until you find the balancing point and hold it there until you want to drop the front down. The Blade will also pick up the front in second gear as long as you sit back and give the bars a little tug at around 5,000RPM when you pin the throttle. Another technique is to open the throttle in 1st or 2nd, shut the throttle (which throws the weight of the bike from the rear wheel to the front wheel) then instantaneously pin the throttle open (this unsettles the suspension, and throws the weight from the front wheel to the rear wheel - which helps lift the front of the bike). When wheeling dont shut the throttle or otherwise it will slam the front wheel down on the ground which will eventually blow you fork seals and head race bearings. Also always have the rear brake covered just in case it goes too high.......... Happy Wheeling!!!! Dan...You may prove me wrong, but I don't think that the Blade will wheelie in 3rd gear, not enough torque.......
I just grabbed a handful in 3rd and it lifted the front. the Speed triple was mad trying to keep the front down in first and second. the blade even more so. but fun
Yeah it will no probs , you gotta be high in the rev range and dump the clutch . comes up no probs . Your taking off at 80mph + thou so most people dont try lol. I have spoke to alot of people that only wheely on the power and the same amount who use the clutch . i think it is how you learn and become comfortable . I learnt on a 600 using the clutch so im only happy doing that , I find it more controlled and can get it up at slower speeds . I want to learn the technique but im stuck in my ways
It will and dose come up in 3rd from about 50ish if you bounce the front end and clutch it up at the same time get it right and you can hold it in 3rd till it revs out (about 135 ish) as said before its all about finding what works for yourself just take little steps at first and build up your confidence up
Love pulling wheelies on my blade but can't claim to have any real skill at it, rely on pure torque in 1st gear from around 30mph if on the flat. I also learnt this at a wheelie school day. I'd love to be able to clutch up a wheelie but my brain won't let me keep the throttle open when my left hand grabs the clutch :unsure: unless of course we're out playing at Cadwell, where you don't need any real wheelie technique as such ....
Sorry for the confusion, what I meant was pulling a wheelie in 1st, changing up to 2nd, and the changing up to 3rd whilst keeping the front in the air. Easy on the Ducati's (even 4th gear) however can't seem to keep the front up when changing from 2nd to 3rd on the Blade. However today picked up the front at 170ish in 6th gear after hitting a bump in the road!!! Its moments like these that you need OHLINS forks & TTX rear shock!! Time for a change of underwear!!!
Iv had 1 at 140ish over a bump .. underwear needed changing aswell ha ha I have knocked it into 3rd from second ( no clutch obviously before somebody tries it lol ) but to be honest coz I'm using the clutch I'm not at very high revs and have plenty of gear to run through , On the 600 i would run out of gear but the blade is a lot better , Don't want to push my luck lol, My supermoto on the other hand could wheely as far as the road is straight lol and knock it up gears . Cant beat a 4stroke single
I am crap at wheelies however i did once have a go at wheelie school on a naked blade with a massive rear sprocket........couldnt help but wheelie that one. No control tho and i was shite !!!!

Can we have an option for "fronts up on plan, feck can't keep it pinned put it back down again" :laugh: I do the odd little one on the power & off hump back bridges, but they are not spectacular and Cadwell but I spent most of the day trying (And failing) to keep the front down there. I'll tick the not bad button but I think I am bad at it. Hopefully get used to it on my MX bike first.
