Yes keep it secret to as most people as possible . It was a few years ago now but iv had a motocross bike stolen from in my garage ( at a previous address ) I decided to sell the bike so i advertised it in add trader . 2 days later i had a phone call asking if the bike could be viewed . 2 Chavs pulled up in a scruffy shed of a boy racer style corsa . Didn't look like they had a brain cell between them tbh so i showed them , started the bike up , explained the mods i had done , what it has been through , how reliable it is etc but thinking back they was not really interested in the history . They did however ask me 3 times to show them how to start a 4stroke funnily enough . Any way they said they will think about it ( didn't even ask about my best price ) Next day i had a call whilst i was in work from the same boys asking if they could come see the bike again, it was 11.00 am ish so i explained that i was in work and that i will be home at 6.00pm so they said they would come at 6.30. I pulled on to my drive on my bike and i could see straight away that my car door had been bent open at the top of the window and the car moved forward , The garage door was up and wide open and where the bike was chained to a ground anchor sat a chain with a padlock that had been cut open and the bike gone .The cheeky bastards even took my helmet of the shelf . they where the only people that had viewed the bike so i was sure it was them . I don't know why he did but my dad took they're number plate so i was about to phone the police when my mobile rings from the same number these dick heads had been phoning me of earlier in the day . they asked if it was still ok to come see the bike. Instead of keeping my cool and saying " yeah no probs come down , or saying sorry but some bugger has stolen the bike , Making them think i did not suspect them .Instead i blew my lid and said they i knew it was them and they was the only people to view it and know where it is etc. Now amazingly for some reason my dad had wrote down they're number plate when they came to view the night before , Gave it to the police and surprise surprise the bike is no where to be seen and the police can not do anything because they have no evidence .. If i ever see 1 of those 2 shites on the street he will be put in my boot and taken some where very secluded and turned inside out lol
There are some total shit heads about, even though you know it was those scum that took the bike, and even the Police may well have thought the same, there is no way they could do anything without either a witness, forensic or CCTV, the scum may well even have been '' known'' to the police but that means bugger all. Best just to be ultra cautious when it comes to letting the general public know what you have in the garage.
Police finger printed my car but all there was was little dots every where , The buggers had work gloves on with the rubber dots all over them .. Yeah any bike i sell now i meet them in the services as i have a few in the garage

Tis true, there are ways and means to obtain an address from a VRM, But i understand they do not follow the rules at DVLA !
it was a few years ago now. My DaD even would not give me the plate number as he knew id be going down there to torture it out of them lol. Police where rubbish ,they even said the bike is probably in bits now being sold of all over the plates , it was the next day they said that , they just could not be arssed
