Wise words from Bongo; I concur I have never liked Honda 1/4 turn throttles; track or road. In fact, I have just fitted a 1/6th turn HRC tube to my road going Blade & its perfect; takes about 5 minutes to re-learn & like Bongo said, the brain tells the hand how much to turn for a given result. The tube cost around £28 & is a straight swap using the existing cables, housing, grips etc.
Sounds great but how is it possible to have even less throttle throw without changing the cables? Also where can I get one? Cheers
I bought this - Genuine Honda HRC CBR600RR CBR1000RR Fast / Quick Shift / Action Throttle Sleeve | eBay I reused the existing grip; just remove & refit carfully; I used compressed air as it just takes a few seconds. I used the existing cables; just had to slacken them off at the throttle bodies. They fit the new tube perfectly without modification. The HRC item is identical to the oem item except the cam is a little larger.
It takes 2 inches of 'pull' on the throttle cable to fully open the throttle, and you twist the throttle tube which wraps the throttle around itself, until 2 inches of cable is pulled and wrapped onto the the tube. If the tube is bigger, and has a larger circumference, 2 inches of pull is achieved with less rotation of the tube, so you have a quicker action, for the same amount of cable pulled. As always, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, so if you halve the distance you pul the throttle (from lets say a 1/3rd turn throttle to a 1/6th turn, then you double the effort to twist it. QA's are stiffer to pull for this reason. They are in essence, roatating levers, where forces are multiplied the quicker you get. Bongo
Yeah, I'm fully aware of the physics of a QA throttle thanks pal and had one on my last bike - what I'm confused about is why people change cables and throttle body to achieve 1/4 turn if you can get even quicker 1/6 turn action without?
I messaged the guy selling those months ago asking how this would work without the rest of the HRC kit. He informed me it wouldn't and I would still need the the other parts...?
Here is a cut and paste of the e-mail Dear phillips766,This won't work on its own, it is a replacement part for the full kit, regards Paul- doblemotorcycles Click "respond" to reply through Messages, or go to your email to reply -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: phillips766 To: doblemotorcycles Subject: Other: phillips766 sent a message about Genuine Honda HRC CBR600RR CBR1000RR Fast / Quick Shift / Action Throttle Sleeve #170752530363 Sent Date: 16-Feb-12 21:41:45 GMT Dear doblemotorcycles, How exactly will this work? the full hrc QA throttle kit comes with different cables to allow it to work...? kind regards Is this in-correct? I would love QA but have no time to strip the tank and fairings etc so does this really make a difference without all that?
I fitted my tube just last week. I can state without any doubt that it does fit with the existing cables etc on the 2010 bike. You will need to remove the air box etc in order to slacken off the cables at the throttle body however. I read lots about this including many people on both sides of the pond saying the cables were needed; even others saying the existing cables would fit if the nipples were filed down. This was not my finding.
Ah i see Crin. Some QA throttles have cams so large that the stock cables on the bike simply don't have enough inner cable available to wrap around the cam before there is any tension applied tot he cable. Some cams, like Robby moto cams, have a variety of holes around it for the cable to slot into. This means that whatever the length of free inner cable at the throttle end, you can take up slack using holes further round, or if short, use holes closer to the throttle cable ends at the front of the throttle. Some cables will be fine with QA's that only have one option to put the cables in, but some won't. Robby moto's are great for adaptability in these circumstances.
