Of course buddy I get what you're saying there and my core strength is good too I could be too tight on the bars but even when I was on a relaxed road ride I was still in pain. I think in all honesty I have perhaps bought the wrong bike for the job I was wrongly told by my dealer that everyday use wouldn't be a problem on the SP clearly now that is wrong. My biggest gripe is that I am annoyed that I would have to spend more money adjusting the bike just to make it comfortable to ride and even then there's no guarantee it would work. It's fantastic at handling and the corner speed is amazing but it pisses me off that something that costs so much money isn't sorted right out the box and this morning the standard bloody ugly tail section has started to come apart. Then there's this which I noticed run down from the nose in the rain last night and it's on both sides of the bike....
I must admit I nearly did a deal on an SP with my local dealer, he still has it! I guess they are not selling the the predicted hot cakes, what sort of deal were you thinking?
You would have thought Honda would supply suggested suspension settings for road and track use like BMW and Ducati do for some of their sports bikes For a flag ship sports bike, the paint work is s*it
I've got some of that too, it's where to 2 sections of fairing rub and when riding in the rain it washes out of the gap and runs down the white section. Washes off ok and the area where the rubbing occurs is unseen.
The suspension setting for track and road are in the owners manual here's an example from the book. Rear Rebound Road-16 Track-10 Compression Road-15 Track-12 and so on for front and preloads.
Ritchierich, In that case i retract my statement as i had not heard or seen it in any of the previous models handbooks. Nick_bladeRR, check that your bike is at standard suspension settings just in case someone has fiddled with them, if they different, change them back and retry. If they are at the correct standard setting, go see a suspension specialist to see if they can adjust them for you as others have already said. Good luck in getting it sorted mate.
Don't worry about it Barry and Nick its starts from page 98 of owners manual SP settings page 101. I'd check all them first to see if it makes your riding anymore comfortable for you, then see the suspension specialists would be my advise.
I would think that suspension adjustment would not sort your problems here and it sounds like ergonomics. I appreciate that a bike costing this much should work well straight from the crate, but given that we are all different shapes and sizes it's no surprise that it won't work for everybody. It would not sit well with me that I would have to spend yet more hard earned cash to make it suit me better but in this case it might well be worth the effort before ditching it for something else. I hope you find a solution anyway cause it's like an anchor round your neck having buyers remorse.
Lets not forget it's not about how much this Bike costs it's what it's been designed and built for. It's an out & out sports Bike designed to be competitive on Track outa the crate! That design ethos don't tend to make a comfortable Road Bike IMHO.
Thanks again to everybody for all the help and advise on this subject. I took the 2014 S1000RR out for a blat with the wife on the back today and my god it was nice to ride something comfortable for a change and even when I hit a pot hole that was the width of the road it didn't rattle my fillings loose. So I got the dealer to sweeten the deal a tad and signed on the dotted line and will be picking up a brand new s1000rr on the 16th may. It makes more practical sense as and everyday bike and BMW give me all the extras I need bar a screen and crash protection plus I have an abs system that works lol. I will miss the SP as it handles so well but for me I can only afford one bike to do it all with so I have to think outside of the track and going into winter. Financially it's only a little more each month because I've lost equity in vat from the blade but I've got a lower rate of total finance and a better future value on my bike in 3 years even with a predicted 14k miles per year. Have to say the customer service at cannons was fantastic and they're throwing in some extra goodies for me and the wife. Hard decision but in the long run it will suit me better....
Have to agree with you there Jay especially with the changes to the bars and foot pegs to give more of a racing body position.
Good to see you,l be happy with bike nick and more comfortable for you and your good lady, does that mean you,ll be a member of the Beemer forum? Well you can still stop on here and all the boys and or coarse girls will still make you very welcome after all it's only a bike and would be a sad place if we all rode same bikes would be pointless havin a forum for discussions,be lucky and ride safe
Sorry you didn't get on with the SP, it's a great bike. I've got a Beemer and it feels just like my blade when sat on it, I was getting some bar vibes off the Beemer and it was making my throttle hand go to sleep, heavier bar ends have helped so it's not a problem now. What colour S1 are you getting ?
Thanks guys me and the wife will still be on here the Beamer forum is boring this is way more fun and I love the blade it's a truly awesome machine and it always will hold a special place for me and my wife still has it's baby sister so we will be around for some time hehe. Gone for the black white and red 2014 colours
Glad your sorted now mate.. All the best with the bm. Awesome machine.. I've done a sub 1 minute 55 on one round oulton so for me that's rapid
Glad you found something that suits and glad your staying here 1 question though: Is there anyone left here with a blade now or am I the last one??
Good luck with it mate , just gone Beemer route myself. Agree about the forum tho, this place is miles better than the BMW one
