Benn, if you handbuild a chassis from scratch I think it has to have an engineers inspection before they will issue a V5. If there are no numbers, I assume they will suggest some and study any paperwork. I think they can do a search using any ID they can find if they suspect stolen parts have been used. You will need a V5 or some sort of proof that all is above board, I think. What's your story Craig.

Basically, bought a bike, turned out to be stolen, got fucked over by coppers & the dealer, had to pay insurance company a year later to get it back. and i did all sorts of checks etc including HPI, which counts for jack shit, so unintentianally i got caught up in massive stolen bike ring.

Fuk mate that's wank, you do all you can to be honest and upfront it's always the good guys that pay in the end!!!! Trouble with the police is they have to investigate the stolen bike for the sake of the injured parties I.e. Previous owner and insurance company.

At first, the coppers were harsh, arrested in front of my wife & Kiddie, 24hrs in a cell etc but in the end they helped me by providing my details to the insurance company who owned the bike, and i bought it back, luckily enough.

still out of pocket you live & learn!

You'd have to be arrested to account for why you were in possession of stolen goods but their are ways of going about things, it depends on the info they got etc but I'd deal with that in a very tactful way

thing is, i showed them receipts from the dealer etc straight away, even a copy of the HPI check i did on the bike.

it was just i happened to have the 2 most arrogant officers on the force, both of which, 2 months later, ended up fired from the force on corruption charges.

    Karma, bitches.

its basically the condition of consumables, service history etc

When was the motor last refreshed (if ever, 90% of track bike will never have had the motor out & checked)

When was the Suspension last serviced (as above)

    When was it last serviced

If modifications have been made, by whom and how long ago.

lastly, is it legal, are numbers untouched and matching the v5.

then its obviously consumables, tyres, chain & sprockets, oil & filter etc.

also if its a track bike your looking for, look for bikes with wets on wheels with discs ready to go.
