A lot has been said here about kit lenses and I'm surprised that so many are happy with them. Often, a direct comparison with a decent prime or a range topping Flourite one will show what you're missing immediately.
Yeah there is a side by side test on YouTube. Cheap body with expensive lens vs expensive body with cheap lens I'm sure you can guess what won.
I'm biased as you already know what I like, but I'd go even tighter. Remove the context that the subjects are in and let them bleed out of the image.
OK, Final attempt - even managed to use the spot clone brush for the first time with 'better than Fez' results.... (Its that last image with the photoshopping of the leading edge to clean it up so the eye does not focus on some other things in the foreground)
I know it's me that put you up to this and I'm here to be flamed but compare the two pictures of the football shirts. To me, the tighter shot is much more dynamic. It uses the edges of the frame to enclose the subject rather than it dribbling away into negative space. But that's just me. I like 'em.
Cracking shot Dan. Yes Steve its a Passion flower. Used to have one the full length of the garden in my old house. The Christians link the individual parts of the flower to the death and resurrection, hence Passion Flower.
Love this shot - will also post up a zoomed out version - its the colours of the dresses at sunrise and the fact almost nobody looking at the camera This is almost the same pic - fully zoomed out
Also this pic - great example of composition and shows just what a pocket compact can produce with some thought
some crackers in here lads lookin good allblade lil bit more sharpening but a really thoughtfull expression but for a pocket cam thats a cracker
Monkey shot rocks Al and you're right about the low sun on the fabrics of the paddy field image. I wonder how the full frame version would look with a portrait crop.
Try playing with the composition something like this and see if there's a balance point you can exploit
